Carmen Simms has just been sentenced to death; that is, life imprisonment on Terminal Island - an island located miles off the mainland of California, which was created to house murderers and vicious criminals in the wake of prison overcrowding. With no guards, no cells, and no laws, Terminal Island has morphed into a defacto society, whose self-appointed leader, the tyrannical Bobby, rules with an iron first, using other inmates - particularly women - for his own brutal pleasures. As tension and violence mounts, Carmen finds her place as the unlikely leader of the island’s underground resistance, which is planning to overthrow Bobby’s reign of terror.

A cult movie masterpiece from acclaimed filmmaker Stephanie Rothman (The Working Girls, The Velvet Vampire), TERMINAL ISLAND wryly blends a violent action and survival film plot structure with commentary on the American justice system. Starring Phyllis Davis (Sweet Sugar), veteran TV actor Don Marshall (The Thing With Two Heads), and Emmy winner Tom Selleck (TV’s Magnum, P.I.) in one of his earliest roles, Vinegar Syndrome is proud to bring TERMINAL ISLAND to UHD and Blu-ray, in its first ever authorized disc release, newly restored in 4K from its 35mm original camera negative.

Reviews

Terminal

"Great grindhouse gem, beautiful transfer, picture and sound. Top service from VS again!"

Ben C. (4/5)

Excellent upgrade of '70s exploitation on an island

"Quite well made action film with the slightest bit of social commentary. Unusual for the genre, made by a woman director, though she acquits herself with decent acting and a story that seems like an inspiration for Escape From New York and Battle Royale. She also didn't forget to add nudity. The 4K image is stunning, the extras insightful and the whole package reeks of quality."

Tim V. (5/5)

Underrated

"Had never heard of this film before this release. Really enjoyed it even if it's not the flashiest production; very low budget but a great cast. I'm a sucker for survival movies and this one scratches that itch."

Gregory L. (5/5)

Terminal Island

"I was on the fence, but picked this up and I'm glad I did. This was part exploitation film, part feminist film, and all fun. It was a nice change of pace seeing women as strong, integral characters alongside the men in a prison setting and not just damsel in distress. Great picture quality, also."

Drew G. (5/5)

TERMINAL ISLAND

"Good upgrade of 70s sorta classic"

Richard M. (3/5)

Great 4k restoration, surely it

"Great 4k restoration, surely it looks better than it ever did at the cinemas. Very good feature on Stephanie Rothman and her career. The movie is an interesting take on exploitation through the eyes of a woman auteur."
