Helen Hewitt has inherited her recently deceased Aunt Catherine’s humongous country villa. After arriving at their new home, she and her husband Bob immediately feel a sense of unease and hostility from the estate’s staff and tenants, all of whom do their best to make the young couple feel unwelcome. As strange and increasingly sinister events begin to take place around her, Helen becomes determined to uncover the truth about the goings on, and slowly begins to unearth the horrifying and unspeakable evil occurring at the mysterious mansion…

One of a handful of films that acclaimed Spanish horror and exploitation auteur, José Ramón Larraz, made primarily for the American market, REST IN PIECES plays like a refined piece of Euro-horror as filtered through the trashy mindset of late 80s, direct-to-video trash. Pleasantly grotesque (the gore effects earned a 1987 Goya Award nomination) and with a wry sense of self aware humor, REST IN PIECES co-stars Dorothy Malone (The Big Sleep, Basic Instinct), Jack Taylor (Conan the Barbarian), and Patty Shepard (My Dear Killer). Never before released on disc, Vinegar Syndrome is delighted to present REST IN PIECES on Blu-ray in a new 4K restoration of its 35mm camera negative.

For Fans of "Rosemary's Baby"

"Closer to "Rosemary's Baby" than a haunted house movie, a couple moves into a mansion they inherited after the girlfriend's committed aunt dies, but something's just not right about the the house and the community living in it. There is a lot *to* like that I *did* like in 'Rest in Pieces,' but overall (especially the ending) it just didn't come together as a whole for me. The tension is outstanding and the cast is great (the first credit in the closing credits going to the casting director is well earned) with the rising paranoia and the frustration of gas-lighting and running interference is top notch."

Hm

"Not really my cup of tea. Seen a few Larraz movies and they always seem to miss something for me."

Nice little horror!

"A nice little horror film directed by Spanish auteur José Ramón Larraz! Hellen Hewitt, played by the beautiful Lorin Jean Vail, inherits a huge estate from her now deceased aunt, Catherine (Dorothy Malone). She and her husband, Bob (Scott Thompson Baker), move into their new mansion and find a group of strange tenants and servants living in the other houses of their property. But are they really alive? Vinegar Syndrome did an amazing job with their restoration! Unfortunately there seems to be an incompatiblity issue between the disc and the Panasonic UB-820. Around the 30 minutes mark the image breaks into pixelation. I tried cleaning the disc, but to no avail. The same Blu-ray disc played perfectly on my other player."

Rest in Pieces

"Almost used my points to get the slipcover for this release and buy it separately, but I’m happy I got it during the RAD sale. Some really cool effects. The purple and green artwork really draws me in. Happy to have this in my collection."

Ant D. (5/5)

A lot of fun

"This one goes in unexpected directions but it’s a solid “haunted house” movie."

"Big fan of the director, it may not be his best film but it was nice to fill a gap in my collection."

Classic 80's B-movie. I did

"Classic 80's B-movie. I did have a glitch at one point during the movie and it skipped to the next chapter. I have had a few other blu rays from VS do the same thing in the past."

Spanish Weirdness

"Unbalanced thriller offers quirky characters and some nice atmosphere as a couple move into an inherited estate and strange things start happening. I saw it on VHS and didn’t think about it again until I ran across this release. Spanish horror from Jose Ramon Larraz."
