In Boston, a young female teacher’s aide is found decapitated in a playground, her head discarded in a nearby bucket. Bearing striking similarities to a murder that took place the week before, Harvard-educated Lieutenant Judd Austin is brought onto the case, who quickly establishes that the latest victim had been enrolled in evening classes at Wendell College, a local girls' school. As suspicions fall on anthropology professor Vincent Millett — whose extra-curricular liaisons with his students are well-known — the black motorcycle helmet-wearing, Gurkha blade-wielding killer strikes again and again, each time decapitating a young woman connected with the school and disposing of the head in water. Can Lieutenant Austin unmask the maniac before the entire female student body loses their heads?
A superlative slasher hailing from the golden age of the slice-and-dice boom, 1981’s NIGHT SCHOOL was the final film from celebrated English director Ken Hughes (Casino Royale, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang), and the feature debut of Golden Globe-nominated actress Rachel Ward (The Final Terror, Fortress). Boasting cinematography from David Cronenberg regular Mark Irwin (Videodrome, The Fly) and a score by Brad Fiedel (The Terminator, Fright Night), NIGHT SCHOOL was branded a “video nasty” in the UK and censored due to its scenes of shocking violence. Now newly restored in 4K from its original camera negative and loaded with brand new bonus features, Vinegar Syndrome is thrilled to unveil this slasher classic on UHD for the first time ever in an edition that goes straight to the top of the class!

This special limited edition Mutant slipcover, part of a subscription package, features stunning artwork by Chris Barnes and is limited to 7,000 units. The accompanying movie, a cult favorite from 1984, has been restored in 4K UHD with new and archival extras. Customers appreciate the excellent transfer and looks of the slipcover, and the movie is praised for not being too gory.
"I own this film on vhs, dvd, bluray and now 4k ultra hd bluray and I can say with first hand experience that this is the best the film has ever looked and is a definite upgrade. Detail/clarity are beautiful, colors fill the screen with life (from the deep blacks to the brightest brights, the primaries …etc) and presence, a natural presence. Sharpness on clothing and skin are wonderful. Overall it’s an organic pleasure and a must have release."

Mutant
"A fun ride through different 80s horror subgenres. Mutant is a jack of all trades but a master of none. This is nobody’s favourite monster/zombie film from this era but it’s a great ride and it looks fantastic with VS’ new 4K transfer"
— Ben S. (5/5)
Mutant mayhem!
"Initially I was hesitant to pick this one up, another sight unseen purchase. I had never even heard of it and thought the grey zombies looked dumb. However after some research I figured I had to have it and what a great choice that was! I love this movie! Great moody atmospheric old drive in vibes here with a cool plot and story and acting. Can't wait to dig into the bonus features. Now I might have to pick up the carpenter for more wings hauser action!"

Wingin’ it.
"Love these flicks with the regional flair, especially the south. Great to see Wings Hauser and Bo Hopkins together like in Nightmare At Noon. Cool slip cover and artwork on this release."

Mutant
"As with every film re-released by Vinegar Syndrome, Mutant is a joy to behold and own. The quality of the picture/sound is pristine. Finally seeing this is 4K . . . divine. The extras should please any horror dweeb, with a new commentary by Howard Berger (of KNB EFX fame) and award-winning producer and screenwriter Steve Mitchell, on top of the archival commentary with the director, producer, and lead star. No complaints with the product itself. My only issue - and it's an ongoing on - is the lag between ordering and delivery. In this case, it took roughly 4 months. That's a long time. I know VS is not a traditional distributor. They are boutique, catering to the needs of cult films enthusiasts. Some waiting is TBE. But four months is a long time. Just saying. Anyway, I am mostly thrilled. I def recommend this item for fans of under-the-radar 80s horror. The end has a great, goopy effect."
— Carl S. (5/5)
Love This Movie!
"I love Mutant (or is it Night Shadows?)! It's a nice blend of Southern gothic and drive-in creature feature. Wings Hauser holds it down in the lead role, with Bo Hopkins providing solid support as the burnt-out sheriff. I'd been waiting quite some time to get a decent BluRay release of this, so thank you, Vinegar Syndrome!"
