Young and handsome Mark Glazer roams around the southeastern United States in his decked out camper, picking up single female hitchhikers. Once he has the unsuspecting travelers trapped inside his RV, Mark savagely assaults and then murders them by slashing their throats, taking photos of the grisly aftermath to add into his macabre collection. But everything changes when he happens to meet Daniela, a spitting image for his deceased mother, who soon becomes the victim of his most savage torments...

Directed by one of the true godfathers of Italian horror and exploitation cinema, Umberto Lenzi (Cannibal Ferox), HITCHER IN THE DARK is an ultra violent mix of suspense thriller and action which stars Josie Bissett (Melrose Place), Jason Saucier (Sister Sister), and Joe Balogh (Moonstalker) as Mark. One of several films produced in the United States by Joe D'Amato (Emanuelle in America) that attempted to tie itself in with a popular American film, this was marketed in Italy as 'Hitcher 2,' and makes its worldwide Blu-ray debut from Vinegar Syndrome in a brand new 4K restoration of its original 35mm negative!

Reviews

Hitcher in the RV Park

"Italian exploitation maestro Umberto Lenzi delivers a wonderfully sleazy, mean-spirited psychological thriller with sun-drenched Florida beachside locations and grimy RV interiors. Bursting with delicious, over-the-top overacting, a nude Melrose Place star and a quirky synth score. The finale was hilarious."

I’d stop for this one

"Sleazy little thriller with a fresh faced Josie Bissett showing it all? Sign me up!"

Travis J. (4/5)

This is a weird one

"Constant threat of sexual violence makes this a bit uncomfortable but it's really goofy and weird at the same time. Strange watch"

Stephen J. (4/5)

Stylish Shadows

"Hitcher in the Dark leans into moody atmosphere and glossy late-night style, crafting a thriller that is more about sensation than strict logic. The film thrives on its slick cinematography and pulsing energy, turning empty highways and neon-lit spaces into a seductive backdrop for obsession and danger. Performances push toward the heightened and the story wanders into pulpy territory, but that is part of the appeal, giving the movie the feel of a fever dream you sink into rather than analyze. It is an imperfect but compelling ride, one that captures a very specific moment in genre cinema where style and mood mattered as much as the twists themselves."

Hitcher in the dark

"Cool later Italian horror film with good effects and very cool artwork."

Top ten low budget slasher for me

"Love this flavor of slasher; hunting down beautiful women for prey. Low budget but not one dimensional."

Casey V. (5/5)

Fun time

"Not one of Lenzi’s best, but still a fun oddity that straddles the line between an original film and a thin “homage”"

Damon S. (4/5)

Love the slip

"A Umberto Lenzi classic! Nice touch on the slip with the glossy lenses"

Hitcher in the Dark

"I suspect that if this were shot in the 1970s in Italy, it would be considered a bit of an undiscovered gem. Transplant it into the 1980s and the US, and it becomes a bit of a curiosity. I like it enough to own both the UK 88 Films and the VS editions. Yeah, it is a bit patchy in places, but stick with it. Gorgeous slip; the use of spot gloss is perfect!"

Steven A. (5/5)

This movie is a low

"This movie is a low budget slasher with a strange mixture of sleeze and comedy. It's a Umberto Lenzi film so that should highlight the type of film it will be be!. It has a great transfer without too much damage to the film. The commentary team of Samm Deighan and Kat Ellinger are worth the purchase alone!. It has a great slipcover too."
