Welcome Vinegar Syndrome Labs (VSL) to the VS Sub-Label family! As with each of our sub-labels we are hoping to expand and defy expectations with the diversity of films we restore and release. As the name implies, VSL will serve as a kind of testing area for releasing genres and eras of film that one might not immediately expect to come from VS. The ultimate objective of VSL will be to see if these types of films will find an audience, and if so, pursue and release more of them…and even if not, still serve as a means of restoring more of the weird, rare, and unusual movies you might not expect from Vinegar Syndrome.

Richie Twat and Eddie Elizabeth Ndingombaba proudly run the worst hotel in the world. With bills piling up and a myriad of issues coming to a head, it's up to them to provide the perfect Guest House Paradiso experience to the Nice family during their stay... if only they stayed somewhere else. A weekend of nightmarish situations involving exotic lingerie, Italian movie stars, getting trapped in an oven, and more vomit than you can imagine await anyone foolish enough to stay at the Guest House Paradiso.

The final collaboration between Adrian Edmondson and the late Rik Mayal (Drop Dead Fred, TV's The Young Ones), co-founders of the anarchic ‘80s UK comedy troupe The Comic Strip, director Edmondson’s GUEST HOUSE PARADISO is bizarre, uncomfortable, non-stop hilarious, culminating in the greatest (and most voluminous) vomit gag in cinema history. Reprising their characters from the famed British sitcom Bottom Mayal and Edmondson are joined on-screen by Bill Nighy (Love Actually), Vincent Cassel (Black Swan, Irreversible), Kate Ashfield (Shaun of the Dead) and Simon Pegg (Hot Fuzz, Star Trek) in one of his first movie roles, Vinegar Syndrome Labs offers the definitive home video release this unsung classic of British comedy, newly restored in 4K from its 35mm interpositive.

Reviews

Guest House Paradiso

"A genuinely very funny film that offers more than the gross out it’s often known for. Fans of Rik and Ade will absolutely lap this up as it’s exactly the same slapstick and verbal comedy the duo made famous on TV in the years prior, only this time with a bigger budget and a surprisingly impressive cast too."

Ben S. (5/5)

Rik and Ade galore

"Love Rik and Ade, they always deliver. Great slip, too. Now, please bring a Dangerous Brothers release and I'm set."

Jakob P. (5/5)

Yummy

"The transfer is fantastic, capturing all the gross humor in high definition. I would never have known about this movie if it weren’t for vinegar syndrome"

Gustavo M. (5/5)

So much wild fun!

"If you're not familiar with "Bottom" or at a minimum "The Young Ones", I'm not sure this is for you. It's brash, disgusting, hilarious, outlandish, and just massive fun."

Steven F. (5/5)

Amazing

"Perfect comedy"

tyler j. (5/5)

Sludgy

"Guest House Paradiso feels like one of those movies that fully commits to being chaotic and gross in the best way possible. The humor is definitely not for everyone, but I kind of appreciated how unapologetically weird and over-the-top it was. It has that very specific British comedy energy where everything just keeps spiraling into complete disaster. Even when it’s ridiculous, you can tell there’s a lot of personality behind it."

Kenia C. (4/5)

The return of drop dead Fred!

"This one is absolutely bonkers! Great cast and amazing sound coming together to make a fun watch"

Eric G. (5/5)

Wow!

"if you’re a fan of The Young Ones and Bottom, this is a no-brainer"

Carl R. (5/5)

Good

Matthew R. (3/5)
