Elizabeth’s life is in shambles. Her husband has just dumped her for another woman, her car has been stolen which causes her to arrive late for work only to get fired, and her overbearing mother has convinced her to move back home. One night when she can’t sleep, Elizabeth happens upon the small box which housed her childhood imaginary friend, Drop Dead Fred, who used to cause all kinds of mischief. But, when Elizabeth opens the box causing Fred to reappear, she is drawn into a raucous series of new, highly destructive, and hilarious adventures.

Although derided by critics upon its initial release, Ate de Jong’s DROP DEAD FRED has since become a cult favorite, earning a hardy reputation as one of the strangest and most unhinged ‘family’ films to ever emerge from a major studio. Starring Phoebe Cates (Gremlins, Fast Times at Ridgemont High), Rik Mayall (TV’s The Young Ones), Marsha Mason (The Goodbye Girl), Tim Matheson (National Lampoon’s Animal House) and featuring Carrie Fisher (Star Wars), Vinegar Syndrome presents the US Blu-ray debut of DROP DEAD FRED, from a fresh 2K restoration and featuring loads of new and exclusive interviews and extras.

Comedy about finding and releasing your inner child

"Comedy about finding and releasing your inner child with entertaining performances by the cast. Comes with loads of extra features like interviews and commentary probably for the first time on physical media."

Bjarte A. (4/5)

Another overlooked gem given new life

"Companies like Vinegar Syndrome are doing a great thing by keeping physical media alive and doing it really damn well by providing new, high quality releases of overlooked gems like Drop Dead Fred. An excellent release with great features and great artwork."

Stephen K. (5/5)

Definitely some nostalgia for me

"Definitely some nostalgia for me with this one. Not gonna be for everyone but it’s a fun, weirdo movie."

Dale V. (4/5)

Great addition to anyone collection.

"It’s a little bizarre and not exactly a safe kids/family movie by most standards but it’s got a little heart and plenty cheese to make up for it. It’s a great release and I love having it to view whenever I feel like it. Physical media remains for gems like this."

Ivan R. (5/5)

Drop Dead Awesome

"Rik's performance is marvelous, truly wacky; everyone is awesome in this wholesome imaginary-friend flick that VinSyn lovingly restored. Very lucky to have scored the slip for this special release."

Fin L. (5/5)

Classic!

Nathanial P. (5/5)

Heck of a steal

"Film still holds up all this time later in that it's just as bizarre a time, but now it looks better on a nicer TV screen than when we rented the VHS. I've gotten my money's worth and I love it."

Sibyl A. (5/5)

Drop Dead Fred

"Chaotic, juvenile, and strangely heartfelt, this cult comedy is obnoxious in the best possible way."

Phil L. (5/5)
