In the not too distant future, the crew of the spaceship Shenandoah make an unsettling discovery after landing at an archeological dig site on the Saturn moon Titan: another craft, of German origin, has already landed but its crew appears to have vanished save for hotheaded Captain Hans Hofner, who seems to be hiding something about the mysterious disappearances aboard the craft. But it’s not long before the truth is revealed, in the form of a giant, prehistoric alien which intends to eat, and absorb the essences of all humans...
A low-budget but very high ambition slice of mid-80s science-fiction/horror, William Malone’s (Scared to Death) CREATURE juxtaposes bloody alien killings with a madcap starring performance from the great Klaus Kinski (Nosferatu the Vampyre, Fitzcarraldo) alongside veteran TV actor Stan Ivar (TV’s Little House on the Prairie), Wendy Schaal (Innerspace), Lyman Ward (Ferris Bueller’s Day Off), and Diane Salinger (Pee-wee’s Big Adventure). Featuring outstanding special effects work from genre legends Doug Beswick (Ticks) and Michael McCracken (Silver Bullet) and highly atmospheric cinematography by Harry Mathias (The Right Stuff), Vinegar Syndrome is proud to present the Blu-ray debut of CREATURE, newly restored in 4K from its original camera negative and presented in both its theatrical and TITAN FIND director's cut.

Reviews
Creature
"Even though this movie is clearly a rip off of Alien, it’s an excellent rip off. The practical effects that were shockingly gruesome, the excellent score, the higher than average production design, all separate this from a low budget imitation. This release contains an uncut version of the film that offers about 4 minutes of extra footage. I haven’t watched it yet and don’t know what the extra footage is but when I did watch briefly, this version is not of great quality. Would make an interesting watch another time. The special features, aside from the extended Titan version, include a good amount of interviews with the cast, who comment that they had a great time working with each other on set. Warm and fuzzies. Slipcover design is wonderful. It’s modern enough but clearly a throwback to the minimalist poster designs that came out during the film’s release."

Fun 80s schlock
"Yet another "Alien" inspired sci-fi yarn, this rises to the top of the rotten eggs with the wonderfully condescending performance by Kinski. The scene while he eats his lunch while discussing the "next move" was a highlight. Gory and stupid, perfect flick with a frozen pizza and a six-pack."

Watch the Director's Cut Option
"Movie: There's an obvious joke here about how Klaus Kinski is the real "creature", but he's actually more of a proto-"Newt", since by cribbing so much from Alien this movie ended up predicting Aliens in several ways, including a corpo boss who lies to the crew & a woman in the security forces. Unfortunately, the movie is mostly mediocre. There's a great, unsettling premise which the trailer conveys much better than the movie itself. The special effects and sets are overall solid, and there are even one or two good scares. However the pacing is too slow, and it's a mistake to have someone say it's 70 degrees below zero outside the ship if you're not going to follow through on that when people inevitably end up outside not properly dressed. Extras: An average making-of doc. About 20 minutes or so. Director's cut: The only things I really noticed that were different about this cut were the title sequence and that everything was visually much darker. I'm not sure that this was intentional, but I _do_ think that it helped with the tone of the movie, since the brighter lighting of the main cut makes it feel more like a parody of Alien than a ripoff. Packaging: Bonus points for reversible cover, although both are probably too good for the movie. The slipcover is also great, and has some nice (and subtle) spot gloss."

Fun budget Alien homage
"This is a pretty low-budget but still fun Alien rip-off. It's cool to see how someone would try to make an alien horror movie with no budget."

Killer special effects alien flick
"Very cool edition of this list gem creature feature. The restoration does a great job at retaining the grain of the original film while also upgrading the picture. This movie is batshit crazy, and well worth the pickup if you like a good alien knockoff flick."
