Wanda’s famed archeologist father has been missing for years. Out of the blue, she receives an unexpected letter from her father’s colleague in Africa informing her that his disappearance is due to his presumed death after falling down a bottomless pit. Deciding to make the transcontinental journey in the hope of finding him alive, Wanda flies to Africa only to end up stumbling down the same pit as her father. Once at the bottom of the hole, she discovers that it’s the gateway to a lost subterranean civilization - Atlantis! Unfortunately, the Atlanteans don’t take too kindly to visitors from the Earth’s surface...

Better on second viewing
"I picked up a cheap copy, as I wanted to give this a second chance (and I'm glad I did!). The film has a charm about it, but the first time I watched it the whole thing felt a bit disjointed. Second time it didn't, but I guess that's just because I had a better idea what to expect. What I will say is that Albert Pyun made it look a million bucks and the world he creates is rich and visually interesting. In any event, Cannon no longer exist and films like this aren't going to get made again (not shot on film anyway), so I think it's important to accept the shortcomings and accept these old movies for what they are!"

From MST3K to VS, For The Love of Kathy Ireland
"I originally discovered this movie through its appearance on Mystery Science Theater 3000 and despite its very obvious flaws, immediately fell in love with the movie. From there, I found it for sale on this website, my first exposure to Vinegar Syndrome. I'm writing this review from an email I received in 2023 and it's crazy how much I've stacked up since that purchase. This movie is awesome. Definitely check it out if you like silly, little low budget sci-fi movies that lean heavily on the fact that they could pull off casting Kathy Ireland."

"80s adventure movies capture a bit of magic, full of great imagination, more than other eras. The journey to an underground Atlantis in this movie contains some of that magic.
