                    Reviews

Solid restoration for a tough, gritty Aussie thriller

"Shame is a tough, emotionally charged Australian thriller that balances exploitation elements with a surprisingly strong feminist core, led by an excellent performance from Deborra-Lee Furness. The film’s direct, no-frills storytelling gives its themes of misogyny and small-town violence real impact, even when the pacing occasionally feels uneven. The Umbrella Entertainment Blu-ray delivers a solid restoration, with natural colors and improved detail that help the dusty rural setting feel vivid and oppressive."

                    Roberto P. (5/5)

                    Great Presentation and Features

"A very strong release with a stylish look, an engaging script, and a solid overall presentation. The transfer looks clean while still keeping the original character of the film intact. The bonus features add nice value and make this feel like a well-rounded collector’s edition."

                    Thomas L. (4/5)

It's A Shame This One Had To End!

"The director of this really awesome flick's voice was heard loud and clear through the terrific job he did! The performances were really good, as was the storyline. I thoroughly enjoyed this one and didn't want it to end! The peerless VS restoration process was on full display with stellar sound and picture! Thank you, VS, for continuing to lovingly restore and release so many wonderful films from every conceivable genre! You are keeping physical media alive in this streaming world we now live in! Highly recommended!"

                    Paul K. (5/5)

Mrs. Furness' claws show, was she trained by Wolverine

"New interview on extras where Beverly Blankenship randomly recalled shooting was so cold they had to have nipple covers for the ladies that failed, no shame in that. This crew conversation was alot of fun to watch. They had a unified vision backed by life experience and this comes through in how realistic and solid the movie is. Never knew the Deborah Lee and Hugh Jackman connection before watching her interview on the extras. Phenomenal actress!"

                    Derek T. (4/5)

                    It's a shame

                    "Interesting title on sale"

                    Aussie Revenge

"A little slower than I was hoping for but a well done entry."

                    Nathanial P. (4/5)

                    Powerful Film

"Shame is not an exploitation film. Get that out of your head. It is an extremely powerful film about a small Australian town, and the evil that brews beneath the surface. It's about what is right and wrong, and the pursuit of justice that so many women must face in their lives. The film is from 1988, remains topical to this day, and sadly, always will be. Watch this, for it is devastating"

                    Kevin L. (5/5)

                    Kevin G. (5/5)

                    powerful ozploitation

"great cast and transfer although it looks a little dated it has a powerful though subtle message that sadly is still relevant. Interesting extras and I love that artwork"
