Reviews
I have a great affection
"I have a great affection for the old video rental stores. This brought back a lot of nostalgia for me. The artwork is neat, but not my favorite. If you were a video store kid like myself growing up than this is a no brainer."
— Bradley T. (5/5)
Exactly What You Expect
"This is exactly what you think it’s going to be. Video shop nostalgia via talking head recollections, video and photo montages. No real groundbreaking insights, but fun, and done better than usual. It suffers the usual issues of variable sound levels between interviews that haven’t been equalised, random omnipresent background music that drops in in out, and they run out of vintage stills at some point and start recycling them. These are all pet peeves of this sort of production, and it has them all to greater or lesser extents - put as mentioned, this is better than most."

Mom N’ Pop? Yeah, it
"Mom N’ Pop? Yeah, it hits that sweet spot of nostalgia for all those who grew up renting weird movies in sketchy little video stores. But hey, in Germany? Our video store game was a whole different beast — no endless aisles of cult classics, more like quick stops and chain shops. So while this doc paints a glowing picture of that indie video store boom in the States, for me it’s kinda like watching someone else’s vacation photos. Still, if you’re into VHS nostalgia and love that dusty, tape-filled vibe, you might dig it. I’m just here for the memories I never had."
