"a beautifully twisted, low-fi Gen X hangout comedy disguised as a grit-soaked 1970s drive-in flick"
"Honestly it seems like a bad DVD upscale. I couldn't watch the damn thing !"
"An enjoyable film."
"This is a really 90s feeling flick filled with really great alternative music and many memorable scenes. I love these dystopian movies so this was definitely up my alley. Even though the film is quite low budget the Blu Ray looks fantastic and we get some nice extras too. Great package!"
"Kill the Moonlight is a scrappy, surreal indie comedy that blends deadpan humor with a lo-fi, DIY aesthetic. Its offbeat story of a fish factory worker chasing a racing dream feels both absurd and oddly sincere. Fans of cult cinema will appreciate its eccentric charm and unapologetically weird energy."
"The charm and feel of this release may depend on your connection to a specific time and place, If you're a die hard fan of Beck, the director of this film directed several of his music videos, including the one for Loser, which uses several audio clips from this film, Kill the Moonlight. The special features are a bit lacking, but the super limited edition slipcover is a nice addiction I'm glad to have. This little known 16mm bargain basement badassery, which I'd never heard of before is now mine thanks to Factory 25 and VS!."
"Went into this blind but looks great, the packaging is fantastic and had some really unique scenes. Terrific 90s artifact!"
"A small town success story of car racing from the 90’s that feels really differently in today’s climate. As Cake sampled “I’m a driver I’m a winner. Things are gonna change, I can feel it. ” Worth it for that line alone."
"A film which is notable almost exclusively for the fact it was sampled by Beck for the track Loser. Aside from that, there's relatively little here of any interest (at least in my opinion). To give some idea what to expect, within a few minutes of the film you're 'treated' to a first person view of someone urinating. The final driving scene is filmed pretty well, but that's about the best thing I could say about it. I put it on eBay for half the price I paid and I still can't get rid of it - partner label stuff just doesn't seem very popular these days."
"Kill the Moonlight is a surreal, lo-fi odyssey through the sun-bleached wastelands of early ’90s Los Angeles, where a hapless stock car racer’s dreams unravel in a haze of toxic waste, odd jobs, and existential weirdness. The film’s scrappy 16mm visuals and off-kilter narrative make every frame a slice of outsider art, with scenes flipping upside down and backwards just as our hero’s life does. Vinegar Syndrome’s release preserves every jittery cut and grungy soundtrack cue—including the Beck-sampled moments that cemented its cult status. If you want a folk-art fever dream that’s as F-U-N as it is unpredictable, this is your ticket to cinematic moon madness."
