A cult favorite of Australian neo-noir, Goodbye Paradise is a sharp, sunburnt thriller that blends political satire, mystery, and offbeat humor. Ray Barrett stars as Michael Stacey, an ex-cop turned whistle-blower and reluctant private eye, drifting through Queensland with a hangover and a cynical outlook. But when an old friend’s daughter vanishes, Stacey is pulled into a bizarre conspiracy involving a free-love cult, a shadowy paramilitary group, and a radical plot to seize control of the state. Also starring Robyn Nevin, Lex Marinos, Grant Dodwell, Paul Chubb, Kris McQuade, and Mark Hembrow, what begins as a simple missing persons case soon spirals into a world of corruption, danger, and deception. As powerful enemies close in and bodies start piling up, Stacey must navigate a landscape where loyalty is fleeting, and the truth is as elusive as a cool breeze on a Queensland summer day.

                            A very enjoyable film

                            "The plot of this movie went all over hell’s half acre and back! Its mix of comedy, politics, crime and sex felt like watching a patchwork quilt of a movie. Though, not in a bad way - it kept it all of a piece with a narration-style overview. The acting was understated, the story didn’t go to extremes, and the cinematography captured how gorgeous that whole Gold Coast zone is (or was). The politics have a universal messaging to them - both pro and con - and the intrigue of the call girls and nudie models held firm. The lead actor pulled off being beleagured quite well - he definitely had the lived-in time-worn presence that the character called for. A very enjoyable film. // The interviews in the Special Features were informative and fun (I didn’t utilize the audio commentary yet. ) The slip cover has beautiful artwork, also the reversible insert is very nice, too."

                            Ozploitation Classic!

                            "This is one of my favourite Ozploitation movies and one which I only discovered fairly recently. I did have all those Ozploitation collections, but as I didn't want all the films on them I've got rid of those and I'm buying these releases as and when they come up (hoping for Lady Stay Dead next so that I can retire my Code Red release!). I don't want to spoil the movie, but I will say that it goes off on a tangent that you probably won't expect! The picture looks fantastic on this release and it includes quite a few extras. On that note, if you push left on the menu and select the name of the film then you can access an easter egg (just a one minute video, but it's a fun extra anyway!). I recommend this 100% to anyone who is a fan of Ozploitation or weird movies which go off their own way."

                            "Sends a disgraced ex-cop through early-’80s Queensland, where a missing senator’s daughter leads him into oil, coups, prostitution, cults and, naturally, a banana. The satire may lose some bite across the Pacific, but this forgotten comic-noir is so packed with weirdness and sharp ideas that it feels overdue for rediscovery."
