Since 2004, Bleeding Skull has explored otherworldly cinema through reviews, books, and home video releases. We shine a light on independent genre films that have flown under the radar but deserve to be seen by all. Fangoria has called Bleeding Skull “The go-to encyclopedia for trash, bizarre, and shot-on-video cinema,” while Vice referred to it as “like a fever dream glimpse into parallel worlds". Visit us at BLEEDINGSKULL.COM.

Let's all go to Donkeyland! Shot on video for $2,000 by “James Dillinger” (aka author James Robert Baker) and produced by Los Angeles art collective EZTV, BLONDE DEATH is a savage blast of underground anarchy. This limited edition flexi disc features "The Ballad of Blonde Death," an exclusive, rip-roaring audio collage by Bleeding Skull that pays tribute to the most accomplished and important shot-on-video film ever made.

The story follows the transformation of Tammy Lynn Beaverdorf (Sara Lee Wade) from bubbly teen to death-tripping speed freak—an in-your-face rampage of sex, drugs, and violence that climaxes with scenes that were secretly filmed inside Disneyland. Satiric, subversive, and gleefully enraged, BLONDE DEATH is an essential chapter of queer cinema history.

      Reviews

      Explosive little film

"Considering this was shot for about 2000 dollars (a pittance), this has the energy of an indie production ready to storm the world. Quite funny too at times. I believe this is Bleeding Skull's first release and they start out well, with solid extra's and quality overall."

      Tim V. (4/5)

      Bot slow but good

"Some times bit too slow to my taste. Otherwise i enjoyed this one."

      Lauri P. (4/5)

      A Landmark SOV Film Beautifully

"A Landmark SOV Film Beautifully preserved by Bleeding Skull. A must-have for any fan of the SOV genre."

      Kirk W. (5/5)

      Although I constantly try and

"Although I constantly try and dip my toes in the SOV films, I still cant seem to see what everyone else does in these movies. This movie defiantly is full of creativity and hardwork, but I just fail to get invested in it. I will say the commentary helps me to understand the context for this one, but still this one falls short for me."

      Charles S. (3/5)

      Masterpiece of SOV cinema

"Stone cold classic masterpiece. Must see. A+++ release."

      Jon B. (5/5)

      Queer Angst

"Early SOV full of queer angst I wish the lesbian eye patch girl was more part of the crew, she is my favourite character! This goes surprising places, definitely worth watching, I’m excited to watch the extras"

      Jonah A. (4/5)

      Suburban Nihilism

"Blonde Death is a pipe bomb wrapped in a neon-pink VHS jacket. This is the holy grail of SOV (Shot-On-Video) anarchy—a middle finger to the Reagan era that makes the early work of John Waters look like a Hallmark special."

      Alex M. (4/5)

      Perhaps the greatest SOV film

"SOV is a medium in which one can create nearly anything. Blonde Death is an example of someone focusing more on the quality of writing over technical quality. It’s the John Waters movie John Waters never made."

      Paige L. (5/5)

      So, so good

"Holeeeee shit! I can't believe it's taken me this long to see this. If John Waters was born a little later, this might've been his first movie. The clash between the southern teenaged Tammy and the criminal and religious insanity of those around her in California is hilarious. This is legitimately one of the funniest movies I've ever seen, and made me guffaw to myself several times. I'll be thinking about and quoting stuff from this one for a long time!"

      Harper H. (5/5)

      Video punk distillate

"Great example of how you can make a great movie with passion, anger, talent and creativity alone"

      Teun H. (5/5)
