In 1966, little Sarah Tusk poisoned her parents to death. Now some twenty years later, Sarah is an inmate at the Lakeview Asylum. Her sister, Victoria, who is now a personal chef, has never forgiven Sarah for her terrible crime and is determined to see her rot in the asylum, and is happy to make Sarah readily aware of her intentions. Little does Victoria realize, Sarah’s bloodlust and insanity have grown and upon learning that her sister won’t help get her out, she hatches a plan to escape on her own. After literally turning Victoria into steak tartare, she ingratiates herself into her sister’s work; fixing a dinner party for Victoria's employers wherein she's the main course. Unfortunately for them, some unwitting cannibalism is the least of their troubles as the meal has been spiked with sleeping pills and the revelers soon awaken in an abandoned wing of Lakeview as guinea pigs in Sarah's demented lab...

Insane asylum horror with gore and laughs
"Low budget doesn't always have to mean low ambitions. This film didn't cost a lot of money, was made by a production team of 3 people who desperately needed a project that could be shot with only 10. 000 feet of film and while this is on the surface a horror film about a crazy woman called Sarah who escapes from an insane asylum, kills off her older sister Victoria and then proceeds to torture a group of friends that happened to be in the wrong place, it's so much more in reality. There's film noir (there is a voice-over by a writer, the main hero, who says stuff that would make Philip Marlowe wince about how corny it sounds), there's social criticism (the group of friends have a dinner party where the film lingers on for a long bit for them to talk about the nature of psychological violence, among other things), you get 2 insane asylum inmates do charades about older films and actors and, of course, you have the violence that, according to the interview with the director, was inspired by Salo and The Evil Dead. The film feels overstuffed and all over the place, typical of someone who, for their first film, thinks he has to stick in as many ideas as possible. You got a doctor who has a mommy-fetish with a doctor, you have colored lighting and twisted camera angles that heighten the feel of distortion and craziness that fit the insane characters and feel like it was shot by the love child of Sam Raimi and Stephen Sayadian, there's cheap and cheerful gore, you get a sickly-sweet opening sequence where a young Sarah kills her parents in a parody of what seems the '50s American Nuclear Family,. . . It's not a film that's brushed and polished to perfection. There's a raw charm about it, with humor, gore and true atmosphere (the deserted asylum is an amazing location that's used to great effect) and, also, the grainy image quality (preserved on the Vinegar Syndrome bluray). And not to mention a sweaty power lifting love scene! Seeing as how this film gets generally lower scores, it seems to me you have to really appreciate the creativity and freedom that goes in these kinds of films. If you are the right audience, you'll find much to enjoy."

A Bad Cannon Film
"I have a feeling I already reviewed this, but as it was cheap I bought another copy (I sold my original one). It's not terrible, but it's not great either. It probably starts out better than it finishes and I wanted to like it more than I did, but as 'odd' as it is I really couldn't enjoy it all that much. Certainly don't go into it expecting anything serious and you might have some fun with it."
