Amazing time capsule film with contemporary appeal
"A rather torpid slice-of-life film - it feels like its in real time and doesn’t seem to have much of a script. It’s interesting as a time capsule, and the mischief of teenagers is intriguing as such, but not much happens except a lot of tea-making. The friendships et cetera are rather puddle deep, alas, but the parents and authority figures make up for that with actual action and clever dialog. Visually, it’s marvellous - gorgeous black-and-white cinematography and period settings that show well what neighborhoods were like back then. Perhaps it’s a bit impenetrable to me as an American from a different generatation? I liked it, but didn’t quite get what it was going for - not sure most of us would. // The special features are wonderful, informative and engaging. The booklet included is helpful in understanding why this film does deserve to be seen in this era. Great art on the slipcover and front insert, too."
