This special limited edition 2-disc 4K UHD/Blu-ray set comes with a spot gloss hard slipcase + slipcover combo (designed by Matt Frank) and is limited to 6,000 units. It is only available on our website and at select indie retailers. Absolutely no major retailers will be stocking them.

Earthquakes are causing havoc throughout Korea and it's no simple seismic mayhem, but instead the mythic monster Yongary emerging from the earth! After nuclear testing awakens the giant monster presaged in Korean folklore, Yongary threatens to level the country, breathing fire and stomping entire buildings. Only scientist Il-Woo, with the help of his girlfriend's prankster kid brother Icho, can figure out how to slow down the terrible Yongary, who gobbles up petroleum products and only appears to be growing stronger. The seemingly powerless army considers using guided missiles against Yongary, potentially demolishing ancient historical landmarks in order to save lives, all in the hope of stopping his fiery path of destruction.

Considered one of Korea's first giant monster epics, YONGARY, MONSTER FROM THE DEEP is a vital and original take on the genre, with an expertly handled monster, a healthy dose of humor, and even a clever touch of sentiment shown towards the monster itself. It also boasts masterful special effects crafted by the legendary Keizô Murase (Mothra, King Kong vs. Godzilla, Gamera, etc.) himself, character stories built around Il-Woo and Icho, and utterly exquisite miniature work. This kaiju classic and long-time staple on regional U.S. TV has something for everyone, including a jaw-dropping rock 'n roll dance sequence! The folkloric monster team at Vinegar Syndrome is proud to bring you this beloved creature classic, newly restored in 4K and finally featuring the surviving fragments of its original Korean language version.

Bring on all the 60’s

"Bring on all the 60’s creature features! Had fun with this one, cool Korean monster movie. Nice effects and the transfer helps, also this edition comes with the Korean version. A great package form VS, and I hope there are more of these creature features to come. If you’re a fan, it’s an easy purchase."

Great looking release

"I’m a super fan of Kaiju movies; I can’t get enough of them. A few years ago I started collecting Kaiju films from various countries and saw Yongary. It’s decent for a Showa era film and the miniatures are well made. When I saw that Vinegar Syndrome had a 4K transfer of the movie I pulled the trigger and got it immediately. The box art and slipcover are great; very nice looking. I’ll be interested to dive in to all of the included extras too. And the included poster is a cherry on the top. Get this release!"

Amazing

"Outstanding artwork and supplements on this excellent release. The movie itself is charming and entertaining. Great release."

The VinSyn Monsterverse Continues…

"For my full detailed review of Yongary, see my entry on Letterboxd: @M4N14K First Gorgo, then Reptilicus, now YONGARY! I viewed this film on the Yongary, Monster from the Deep Vinegar Syndrome 4K Limited Edition physical media release and it is the same great premium level of packaging and presentation that you’ve come to expect from the generic releases of this boutique label. No other brand beats Vinegar Syndrome at the cardboard game and this great slipcover is no exception to the consistently fantastic artwork and component quality this company produces. The artwork on these kaiju movies are particularly awesome as are the monster anatomical deawing inserts: Very cool!"

Michael B. (5/5)

great edition

"As with REPTILICUS & GORGO, this isn't my favorite monster movie by a stretch, but it's a great candidate for this loving edition. The bright colors, awesome miniatures & clunky charms of this Korean kaiju are so nicely rendered. Happy to upgrade my DVD with this edition!"

Isaac W. (4/5)

Youngary!!!

"This is a movie that has been missing from my Blu-Ray collection of Kaiju movies for way too long and what a great addition. Although the movie itself is cheesey the overall quality of the picture is great. I can confirm that the 4K Blu-Ray will play in a PAL PlayStation 5 for my fellow Brits."

Leon R. (5/5)

Completely Korean Kaiju

"Give yourself the kaiju treatment you deserve! Interesting addition to the giant monster genre, especially for something outside Toho. Film is likely to be great fun for any fan of 60s-60s Showa G-fans, disc includes some great extras, and the 4k is an exceptional transfer with nice grain and color."

William Z. (5/5)

Good Flick

"The peerless VS restoration process was on full display with stellar sound and picture! Thank you, VS, for continuing to lovingly restore and release so many wonderful films from every conceivable genre! You are keeping physical media alive in this streaming world we now live in! Highly recommended!"

Paul K. (5/5)

South Korea's answer to Gamera in glorious UHD

"This is absolutely in line with the Gamera films from that era and what Toho was doing with Godzilla in the 60s. A co-production with Toei, so really this is just a Gamera movie with a different monster. It's goofy and fun and honestly it looks great. Also included is the existing fragments of the original South Korean production. If you're a Gamera/Godzilla fan, there's no reason for you not to own this. Transfer is excellent, it's never looked better."

Michael C. (5/5)

VS-506

"A kind of Korean ‘Godzilla’, not everyone’s cup of tea, a hard watch at times. As always though VS have done it proud in 4K, lovely packaging also."
