Since 2004, Bleeding Skull has explored otherworldly cinema through reviews, books, and home video releases. We shine a light on independent genre films that have flown under the radar but deserve to be seen by all. Fangoria has called Bleeding Skull “The go-to encyclopedia for trash, bizarre, and shot-on-video cinema,” while Vice referred to it as “like a fever dream glimpse into parallel worlds". Visit us at BLEEDINGSKULL.COM.

If the B-52s collaborated with Negativland on an alt-Earth version of STAR TREK, it would feel a lot like SUROH: ALIEN HITCHHIKER—a mixed media hallucination from filmmaker Patrick McGuinn. The story follows Paul (Peter Gingerich), a skeptic who embarks on a spiritual, emotional, and sexual metamorphosis with an extraterrestrial named Suroh. Awash in LSD-tinged visuals and a pulsing acid-house soundtrack, this is a beautiful synthesis of experimental video art and queer exploration.

Reviews

Suroh

"Suroh: Alien Hitchhiker is a charmingly strange sci-fi oddity that embraces its low-budget creativity with real enthusiasm. The film’s quirky tone and imaginative ideas give it an endearing cult-movie personality. It’s an entertaining, offbeat watch that rewards viewers who enjoy weird and unconventional genre cinema."

Jeffrey W. (5/5)

Suroh is Surreal

"Everything an alien movie needs to be: strange, experimental and sexy."

Matthew R. (5/5)

Nice low budget alien movie

"Weird alien movie. That sex scene is something. I had fun watching this"

Lauri P. (5/5)

Decent little movie

"Not one of the better movies to get released by Bleeding Skull, but still pretty enjoyable."

Oscar M. (3/5)

ET by way of Greg Araki

"This is one of the best movies a VS partner label put out. Funny, trippy. A true gem of the shot on video era."

Dylan B. (5/5)

Brilliant and odd

"This is an outstanding and weird video art piece by a son of a The Byrds co-founder. Oddly enough it did feel like it could co-exist in one of Negativland's longform radioplays. The plot is interesting with some bonkers homoerotic alien and human sex via some sorta mindmelding astral connection. Suroh telepathically sheds some principled criticism about human sex too, so it's a strange friction as he's evidently one horny E. T. ! I'm saving the bountiful extras for next time I hitchhike with Suroh (no homo), but I loved the insightful booklet too with old reviews."

Fin L. (5/5)

What did I just watch

"I don't even know how to describe this movie. It's bizarre. The pacing and production are. . . questionable. The conspiracy scene at the beginning goes on for way too long. But the visuals and scoring are so fun, and the whole packaging, down to the slip cover and the extras, are a delight. If you like obscure, weird flicks, you owe it to yourself to try this one."

Kelsey G. (4/5)

"Bleeding Skull is a safe

""Bleeding Skull is a safe bet almost every time, and this release is no exception"

Manuel S. (4/5)

Yes, why not

"Hitchhiking through life. Genuinely AGFA is one of my favorite parter labels, cause they bring to life lost treasures like Batpussy, treasures that make you doubt your own sanity. Rightfully."

John R. (5/5)

Of Course You Need This One

"It’s from Bleeding Skull, so of course you need to add it to your collection. Duh. Did I mention gay s*x with an alien? Highly recommended."
