"Fascinating collection of SOV cinema of transgression type material in this stacked Saturn core release. Great package."
"I'd seen some of these on dodgey vhs copies back in the 90's, so I knew I'd love this set. Really enjoyed the documentary too. Went down a rabbit hole of trying to find music by White Slug after getting through this collection! I'm warming up to Saturns Core in a big way."
"Very important stuff in the realm of underground/transgressive cinema. It's quite a spoil to have Baylor's films gathered in such a wonderful collection bolstered by great supplements everywhere you look."
"Another amazing discovery thanks to Ross Snyder at Saturn's Core! I was not familiar with Richard Baylor before this release. I saw some films by other filmmakers of the Cinema of Transgression of movement (Richard Kern for example) and love the underground aesthetics and the whole culture. Although Baylor was British and thus not directly linked to the likes of Kern or Nick Zedd, his films are very similar I feel. Very down beat, nasty, brutal, weird and artsy. In short term - I loved them. Since Baylor never went on to make a real feature length movie, this release actually represents his entire filmography, as far as I could find out. All of them were shot on video (black and white and some in color) and there is only os much you can do to restore them. So beware that the picture quality is fairly murky and low fi, even for a SC release. The extras are outstanding, especially the long documentary about Baylor and the thick booklet. I also recommend to check out the episode of the excellent podcast THE DISC-CONNECTED with Ross Snyder, talking about his journey and history with the films of Richard Baylor. The only downside to this release is the cover artwork of the slip. Yeah, I know, it's the cover of the original VHS of "Cirsium Delectus", but still it looks kind of cheap and lifeless. Still, highly recommended for fans of extreme outsider art."
"Saturn’s Core has effectively performed a cinematic exorcism with "Our World Is Drowning and Going to Hell: The Underground Films of Richard Baylor. " This isn't just a Blu-ray; it’s a grit-stained time capsule of 1990s British counterculture that feels like finding a cursed VHS in a storm drain. The Vibe: Lo-Fi Nihilism Richard Baylor’s work is the epitome of the "cinema of transgression. " If you’re looking for 4K crispness, look elsewhere. These films embrace video degradation and multi-generational tape hiss as an aesthetic choice. From the bleak ruminations of Cirsium Delectus to the award-winning (and deeply unsettling) anthology The Holy Trinity, the collection captures a specific brand of anxiety-inducing noise and urban decay. The Transfer: Beautifully Ugly Presented in 1080p via MPEG-4 AVC, the transfer respects the source material. It doesn’t try to "fix" the grime; it preserves the analog texture that makes Baylor’s work so claustrophobic. The "dire and meaningless" atmosphere is palpable, supported by soundtracks that sound like a panic attack caught on tape. The Goods: Deep-Dive Supplements The real draw for collectors is the sheer amount of context provided: "Staring into the Abyss": A standout 45-minute documentary that bridges the gap between Baylor's family life and his abrasive art. Audio Commentaries: David Flint provides an essential oral history of the British underground scene that is arguably as fascinating as the films themselves. Physical Perks: The 28-page booklet and (if you grabbed the first press) the limited slipcover make this a high-end artifact for a low-end world. The Verdict This release is a must-own for boutique horror collectors and fans of the avant-garde. It is bleak, loud, and unapologetically British. It’s a 4. 7/5 star "salvage operation" that proves some of the best art is found in the wreckage. Would you like to see a list of other Saturn’s Core titles that share this "cinema of transgression" vibe?"
"What a freaking trip these were!! Recommended!!"
"From underground horror to experimental with a lean into industrial, this collection is one I was excited about & pleased to own."
"a solid collection of true punk filmmaking. some really creative ideas throughout but just as many forgettable sections or shorts. it's a mixed bag but if it sounds like your thing, there's enough good here to make it worth your while"
"The presentation is very nice. Thick, sturdy slipcover and comes with neat little booklet inside."
"The Baylor Collection was beyond great!! (You Made Your Bed. . . Now Die in It) was my favorite out of all of them!! The Holy Trinity looked liked a video from My Life in the thrill, kill, kult. . . . I'm pretty sure they stole that mash up idea at least!!"
