Saturn's Core Audio & Video is a New Jersey based home video label devoted to releasing underground oddities and shot on video cinema on VHS, and now, blu-ray discs! In partnership with OCN Distribution, Saturn's Core will exhume forgotten or under-seen genre cinema from the 80s and 90s, with an emphasis on SOV horror features. Vinegar Syndrome’s sister company, OCN Distribution, is thrilled to be representing this diverse and unique home video line!

Ten genre film critics from the HORRORDVDZONE website converge at a warehouse for a party on the eve of attending a local horror convention. Shortly after their guest of honor, the infamous indie scream queen Raven Rinaldi (Leanna Chamish) arrives, the power is cut and the doors are electrified trapping everyone inside the building. Unfortunately for the unsuspecting guests, a mysterious masked assassin begins murdering the attendees using a variety of gruesome methods; recreating the notorious kill scenes from the various movies reviewed on their website. Turns out the killer is a deranged, jilted filmmaker who is deteremined to enact revenge on all of the critics who gave disparaging reviews to his rebuffed slasher opus "Dead Hunt."

Brimming with practical gore and sumptuous sleaze, Dead Hunt marks the final directorial effort from Baltimore, Maryland's legendary, low-budget maestro Don Dohler (Night Beast, The Alien Factor, Fiend) and his Timewarp Films collaborator Joe Ripple (Harvesters, Stakes) and remains an elusive puzzle piece in the Dohler oeuvre as well as an underseen SOV slasher curio from one of the Mid-Atlantic's most beloved and inspiring regional horror auteurs. Featuring performances by Dennis Hill (The Wire) along with Dohler vets Leanna Chamish (Harvesters, Vampire Sisters) and George Stover (Desperate Living, Blood Massacre), Saturn's Core is delighted to bring Dead Hunt to Blu-Ray; marking its return to physical media for the first time since its initial, self-distributed DVD-R release nearly 20 years ago.

Passible slasher

"I’m always willing to check out any new slashers and this new one from from Saturns Core caught my eye straight away. The setting in a warehouse is a pretty decent but with a super annoying group of characters and not the best selection of kills this one fell flat for me. A one time watch."

A long lost giallo/slasher gem!

"This movie is so entirely different from anything else cult filmmaker Don Dohler has ever done. This is very much a whodunnit thriller - my favorite genre of film. It feels like SCREAM (1996) mixed with THEATRE OF BLOOD (1973). Having two different versions of the movie was great. One can compare and contrast between them. The extras are plentiful and an absolute joy to watch through - there must be a few hours of them! A huge thanks to Saturns Core and Vinegar Syndrome for releasing the definitive version of Don Dohler's last film!"

Fun little slasher

"I've never left a really terrible review for any SOV movie, and this one shows you why that is a good policy. A killer mad about bad reviews is a pretty unique motivation I don't think I've seen before. Anyone who puts their time and money into a passion project deserves the respect even when they don't pull it off. Fortunately, this one does pull it off. It is a quick moving, fun little slasher with decent makeup effects and performances. Everything takes place in a warehouse and the killer's success hinges on the victims constantly doing stupid stuff, but it's fun. One of the better Saturn's Core this year. Recommended."

This Slasher Is Dead On!

"The peerless VS restoration process was on full display with stellar sound and picture! Thank you, VS, for continuing to lovingly restore and release so many wonderful films from every conceivable genre! You are keeping physical media alive in this streaming world we now live in! Highly recommended!"

Paul K. (5/5)

For low budget enthusiasts

"Dead Hunt is a low-budget slasher that pays homage to classic '80s horror with plenty of gore, suspense, and a masked killer stalking a group of horror fans trapped at a party. Be prepared for sub-par acting and production values. Not the best, but I've seen worse"

Joseph G. (3/5)

Entertaining

"Amusing no budget slasher with a cool concept. Has the typical low budget trappings like bad acting etc but it’s a fun enough watch. Also if you’ve been to the scares that care convention it’s cool to see Joe Ripple."

Nick M. (3/5)

A bit of a letdown

"Looking at the slipcover I was looking forward to some kind of splatterfest. That is not this movie. It is a somewhat competent SOV slasher. Just don't go in expecting a lot of gore."

Jelmer B. (3/5)

A Hunting We Will Go

"What I liked best about Dead Hunt was the large breasted women."

Andrew N. (5/5)

Dead Hunt Rules!!

"What an awesome release!! Love these book style movie and the cover art! Kills/gore were fantastic! Absolute gem!!"

John F. (5/5)

Critics Get the Knife

"A very fun Saturn’s Core pick: website horror critics trapped in a warehouse while a masked killer recreates movie murders is exactly the kind of spiteful little slasher setup I’m here for. It has that regional SOV texture, some nasty practical gore, and a nice bit of genre-world venom baked into the premise. Also great to see one of Don Dohler’s harder-to-find later films back on physical media with this much care. Scrappy, mean, and way more entertaining than I expected."
