Low Budget J-Horror
"The good: this release has a killer slipcover, which is what caught my (wild) eye to begin with. Also, there's a really good doc conversation included, discussing post-2000s J-horror. Though, after watching Violator, I'm worried many of the recommendations are garbage. I still might check some of them out. The film's primary score is creepy until the generic metal riffing takes over. The bad: the movie's acting is subpar. The subtitles are done poorly. Maybe the translated dialogue was too literal rather than capturing the Japanese language's meaning. The conversations just feel wonky. There's crude CGI and weak gore. This feels like something you'd scrape out of the Tubi trashcan. The ugly: after you get the gist of what's happening, it bored me rather than getting me excited. There's no tension or likable characters. You just want the film to end. Two stars for the doc and slipcover, but the film is a 2 out of 10."
