After a year of combating a pandemic with relatively benign symptoms, a frustrated nation finally lets its guard down. This is when the virus spontaneously mutates, giving rise to a mind-altering plague. The streets erupt into violence and depravity, as those infected are driven to enact the most cruel and ghastly things they can think of. Murder, torture, rape and mutilation are only the beginning. A young couple is pushed to the limits of sanity as they try to reunite amid the chaos. The age of civility and order is no more. There is only "The Sadness".

"One of the most brutal takes on zombies that has ever been put to film. It’s so awesome that Shudder has partnered with VinSyn to help preserve these streaming films."
"I really enjoyed this movie. It provided a lot of gore and was very entertaining. The movie is very well written highly recommend."
"Twisted take on the zombie/infected-with-virus genre. Leans heavily into sexual violence and depravity. Very bloody and brutal. Great presentation and not for the faint of heart. Good times!"
"A very gory, messed up good (?) time."
"Crazy gory, amazing new slip. A wild ride."
"I honestly didn't have high hopes for this movie as I figured it was another run-of-the mill zombie/outbreak flick, but boy was I wrong. From the moment the first infected began his assault, it was game on."
"Probably the coolest basic edition of this film I’ve ever seen. The booklet is so cool. Everything was shipped super well protected and tight."
"Like a gorier post-COVID version of Romero's The Crazies, The Sadness even makes the 2010 Crazies' remake look tame by comparison. This is in part to the film's use of practical effects and buckets of red stuff. At times, it feels a little too real (the subway stabbing), but the violence is mostly over-the-top, despite never getting too cheesy other than the government broadcast. The screenwriter and director admits that he was tired of zombie films (me too, bud), and he wanted to fo something different. He achieves it; creating a visceral and often creepy movie that doesn't overstay its run time. It moves at a fast clip. The film looks great with excellent scenery and lighting effects. The special features are plentiful and even gave a couple of interesting short films from the director. Highly recommended. I love the alternate slipcover more than the original. It's just so disturbing."
