"An eerie and atmospheric folk horror film from Malaysia, this tale of a family living deep in the jungle and going against an unnamed and unknown force of evil is an engaging watch, despite a pace that people would often describe as slow-burn. Great acting all around, with super extra points for the gorgeous slipcover!"
"Roh ('Soul') reminded me of The Witch. It follows a rural family who rescue a girl lost in the jungle. Once she is part of their home, the girl warns them that death will come for the family at the next full moon, triggering a spiral of curses, witchcraft and strangers who may or may not be the death the child has predicted. . . Visually stunning, Roh takes its time, ramps up the feelings of dread, and comes highly recommended."
"Real glad I grabbed this. Looking forward to a second watch."
"Now this was a major discovery. A Malaysion fairy tale that has such a feel of dread in it's isolated setting and the small cast does a really nice job. The 21 minute making of was pretty good too showing the behind the scenes moments that were pretty entertaining. Great movie."
"Roh is a quietly chilling piece of folk horror that uses its lush jungle setting and Malay mythology to build a slow‑burn sense of dread that sticks with you long after it’s over. The film’s striking cinematography and atmospheric tension elevate this low‑budget indie, making it feel both timeless and unsettling. If you’re into horror that favors eerie mood and cultural depth over jump scares, Roh is a hauntingly memorable ride."
"Creepy supernatural flick"
"A mesmerizing, atmospheric, slow burn piece of Malaysian folk horror. I would love to see more folk horror out of Asia, especially Southeast Asia."
"Misery porn and folk horror continue to make strong bedfellows, offering a continuous exploration of the world's various legends and myths and then punishing us as viewers for it. This one has some peaks and valleys, but its peaks are strong and impactful enough that it makes up for the lulls, as well as offering the maybe the simplest, small-scale entry in a while but still delivering more impactful moments than films much bigger than it."
"Lots of beautiful shots in this one. Slow and filled with atmosphere. If you dig movies like The Vvitch grab this one."
