Taking its cues from H.G. Wells' THE ISLAND OF DR. MOREAU and H.P. Lovecraft's THE SHADOW OVER INNSMOUTH, director Sergio (TORSO, ALL THE COLORS OF THE DARK) Martino's delirious and bizarre ISLAND OF THE FISHMEN is an Italian genre film like no other!

After surviving two harrowing nautical disasters, Lieutenant Claude de Ross washes up on a remote, uncharted tropical island along with a gaggle of similarly stranded escaped convicts. Soon, the cursed castaways are attacked by amphibious monsters, the work of Professor Ernest Marvin, a disgraced American biologist who has tampered with genetics to create an army of "fishmen". Professor Marvin controls the creatures and has been using them to plunder a submerged city of gold that he believes to be the lost city of Atlantis. But the natives are restless and the fishmen are slowly, surely beginning to hatch their own plans.

Starring legendary actors Joseph Cotten (CITIZEN KANE, LADY FRANKENSTEIN), Richard Johnson (ZOMBIE, THE HAUNTING) and comely "Bond girl" Barbara Bach (THE SPY WHO LOVED ME), ISLAND OF THE FISHMEN was originally released twice to American theaters in the early '80s via Roger Corman's New World pictures in a radically altered version called SCREAMERS (aka SOMETHING WAITS IN THE DARK). DELIRIUM HOME VIDEO is thrilled to be presenting Martino's magnum opus as it was originally meant to be seen.

Reviews

Typical Italian monster film

"I purchased this because I enjoy director Sergio Martino’s films ‘Torso’ and ‘All the Colours of the Dark’, so was keen to see this one. It is a typical Italian-style monster film - very cheesy, but enjoyable and fun (and the ‘monsters’ aren’t even scary). Great slipcover/artwork. Please note it is a Region A release, so if outside the U. S. /Canada you need a multiregion player to be able to view it."

BUY THIS NOW!!!!

"You want excitement? You want thrills? You want scantily clad Barbara bach? And most important, do you want Fishman? Look no further. Perhaps one of the most excellent pieces of international Italian cinema that takes you in and cuddles you and reminds you that Fishman truly have a place in this world, and that is in all of our hearts. This film truly touched me, and I hope it touches you too. Make your last wish When you visit the island of the fish. . men."

Nathan H. (5/5)

Fishman Adventure Movie

"I was hoping for more of a gory Humanoids of the Deep with a Euro-exploitation feel, but this was more of an Indiana Jones-esque adventure movie. The fishmen were somewhat secondary, but they looked great when they were on the screen. Delirium did a great job with the restoration, and the dubbing is fantastic. The slipcover and original cover art are also both top-notch. The movie itself is a 6 out of 10."

NICHOLAS K. (4/5)

Island of the fishmen

"Island of the Fishmen is a wonderfully atmospheric Italian adventure-horror that mixes tropical scenery, mad-scientist weirdness, and classic creature-feature thrills. Its colorful production design and bizarre underwater mythology give the film a wonderfully pulpy personality. It’s a hugely entertaining cult gem that feels like a fever dream of ’70s Euro-exploitation and old-school monster cinema."

Jeffrey W. (5/5)

A must see for Creature Feature fans.

"This super fun horror flick comes housed in a slipcover that boasts some truly impressive art. A must see for Creature Feature fans."

Mark H. (5/5)

Creature Feature

"Picture and sound quality are fantasic (as usual with Vinegar Syndrome). And for a creature feature fan like me, there are a lot of them in the movie, I liked it very much. I love the beautiful slipcover, too!"

Margarete B. (5/5)

Martino's Creature Feature

"Rich with 70s desert-island-adventure-fishmen vibes. Island of Fishmen never loses its momentum. Sergio Martino's confident pacing keeps the story moving without ever dragging. A highly entertaining film."

Noel H. (5/5)

Island of the Fishmen

"Fun Italian monster movie with an all-star cast! Borrow's from H. G. Wells, but it's the perfect blend of fantasy horror & cheesy mayhem! Highly Recommended! A+ Amazing Slipcover for this release!"

Dustin S. (5/5)

I am a lonely island of a man fish.

"This is a nice transfer of Island of the Fishmen. It's a trip on the Island of Dr. Moreau with Dick Johnson, Babs Bach, and Joe Cotten. There is nothing artsy about, but is a classic late 70s monster flick. It would make for a nice triple bill with Humanoids from the Deep and/or Blood Beach/Devil Fish. Too bad the alternate cut wasn't included. If you like creature features. . . this is a good one."

Shellnutt G. (4/5)

Solid Delirium Release

"Had only seen the Screamers cut and this is one of the rare cases where the export cut is the better horror movie. Still, a solid release from Delirium and the artwork looks great!"
