Founded in 2002 as one of the first-ever subscription film services with its DVD-of-the-Month Film Club, Film Movement is now a North American distributor of award-winning independent and foreign films based in New York City. In 2015, Film Movement launched the reissue label Film Movement Classics featuring new restorations released theatrically as well as on home video, with an emphasis on films by auteur directors such as Eric Rohmer, Peter Greenaway and Takeshi Kitano.

An epic war story of World War II. Scientist Dr. Barnes Wallis believes World War II can be shortened by destroying the Ruhr dams, thus paralyzing the enemy's industrial nerve center. In spite of the difficulties caused by the critical situation at the time, he works steadily to perfect a special bomb of his own invention for the purpose. Air Ace Wing Commander Guy Gibson is chosen to form, train and lead the hand-picked squadron. Flying at tree-top level they cross the Rhine and attack the first dam - Moehne. The bombers seem unable to maintain the accuracy essential for success - then suddenly the masonry begins to crumble. The final attack scene inspired the attack on the Death Star in the first Star Wars film.

Slightly dated, but masterfully done just the same

"Let’s get this out of the way first - yes, there are aspects of The Dam Busters that haven’t aged well. The somewhat logy first half, for one, and the stuffy, removed approach to heroism. (VEDDY British. ) And of course, there’s the dog’s name… Yet the film’s story is so compelling - and the final trench run so exciting - that the film still works as a cracking war procedural. And the Film Movement special features are thoughtfully produced and all interesting."

Wow the picture quality of

"Wow the picture quality of the 4K disc looks fantastic! What a transfer indeed looks pristine. I'm happy to finally see this flick as I've heard it's reminiscent of the Death Star scene in Star Wars. Actually quite similar. Great movie and there are so many great extras too. It's crazy that Michael Anderson is the same guy who directed the schlock classic Orca."

The Film that Inspired Star Wars

"See where George Lucas got the climax to Star Wars. The film is a procedural, an engineering problem and a suspenseful, dog fighting war movie that was fully copy and pasted into the Trench Run sequence in Star Wars. Just brace yourself for the name of that one officer's dog. You'll know it when you hear it, every time you hear it. Ooof. The packaging on this one is incredible. The transfer is immaculate. And really solid special features."
