Seven stories. One city. A disparate group of characters fill out this darkly comedic anthology of New Yorkers at their wits end. When the dailiness of urban life is suspended by an unforeseen conflict, each character must make a decision. While the outcomes vary, a unified sense of the city emerges: New York becomes a mirror to the ego reflecting our true character, while the rest sinks to the bottom.

    Coastal short stories

"Entertaining collection of short stories all kind of tied by a coastal theme. Fun storytelling and engaging characters. Comes with a handful of extra features and some nifty artwork on the slipcover and sleeve."

    Kresh R. (3/5)

    Worth it!

"I went it with tempered expectations, but this was an absolutely lovely anthology film that I’ll think back to randomly. Highly recommended for those into character studies."

    Stephanie C. (5/5)

    What Doesn't Float

"Interesting anthology featuring seven stories of modern New York storytelling. Beautiful cinematography and good commentary on the special features included on the disc."

    Armand P. (4/5)

    Technically a movie

"This isn't as much a movie as it is eight random scenes put together on a disc. Thematically they're connected through water and eventually the color red. I'm sure that there's a deeper meaning that I'm missing, and given that the scenes themselves are interesting, it might bear a repeat viewing. The frustrating thing is that I want to see what happens in the rest of the story in each of the eight vignettes. Bare bones release few features no booklet, but it does have a postcard."

    Anthony L. (3/5)

    An indie oddity

"Solid, accurately executed story of whimsical characters who come together in a near fantasy style predicament. Good acting, gloriously unusual story. Extras and bonus features are mostly about interesting with elegant insights, movie is better. An indie oddity."

    Shane B. (5/5)

    Great deal on this one

"Lovely slipcover and loved the storytelling on this release. Plenty to entertain."

    RICHARD L. (4/5)

A very interesting, if slight film

"I’m not sure What Doesn't Float amounts to much. At just over an hour long, this “anthology” feels like a bunch of short vignettes that barely come together. That said, I was never bored, and the NYC location footage is lovely."

    Joshua K. (4/5)

    Fine indie drama

"An NY ensemble drama that tackles a number of stories with a wild and eventful cast of characters."

    craig g. (4/5)

    Great slip, fun flick

    "Fun watch"

    Richard J. (5/5)

An underrated gem from the NY Underground

"Having now visited NYC, this is one of the best films to capture the unique feeling of kinship that can be felt all around the city. There's an interestin story found around every corner, and it is captured beautifully through the eyes of director Luca Balser and co-cinematographer Sean Price Williams. Love this."
