Details

This special limited edition slipcover (designed by Oliver Costes) is limited to 1,000 units and is only available on our website and at select indie retailers. Absolutely no major retailers will be stocking them.

Saturn's Core Audio & Video is a New Jersey based home video label devoted to releasing underground oddities and shot on video cinema on VHS, and now, blu-ray discs! In partnership with OCN Distribution, Saturn's Core will exhume forgotten or under-seen genre cinema from the 80s and 90s, with an emphasis on SOV horror features. Vinegar Syndrome’s sister company, OCN Distribution, is thrilled to be representing this diverse and unique home video line!

High school student Ray Sterling (Mick McCleery) has it in for his fellow classmate Bobby Greene. Seems Bobby’s father was responsible for putting Ray’s father behind bars where he ultimately took his own life. With the help of his three best friends, all donning ominous clown masks, Ray orchestrates a cruel and elaborate prank; kidnapping Bobby and imprisoning him inside an underwater cavern within the local quarry. This seemingly harmless prank turns deadly when Bobby accidentally drowns during the proceedings and the unrepentant Ray quickly covers up the fatal misdeed. When detectives start asking questions, Ray will do anything to keep his friends sworn to secrecy at any cost….even if it means resorting to cold blooded murder.

Like an analog after school special from hell, The Killing of Bobby Greene cleverly skirted the lines between the gritty, indie film crime capers of the ‘90s and the YA thrills of Lois Duncan’s I Know What You Did Last Summer. A masterful early SOV feature from prolific New Jersey based actor, writer, & director Mick McCleery (Twisted Tales, Track 16, The Altruist, Addicted to Murder), Saturn’s Core is proud to present The Killing of Bobby Greene in its definitive, director supervised Blu-Ray edition, newly paired with McCleery’s never before released 1989 SOV crime comedy Crooks and over 9 hours of special features chronicling the entire first ten years of Mick’s One by One Films & Video imprint through documentaries, commentaries, and rare short films!

                    AI Generated Review Summary

The Killing of Bobby Greene is a special limited edition Blu-ray featuring a gripping indie thriller with a mix of customer appreciation for its extras, including interviews, shorts, and behind-the-scenes footage. While the film is generally well-received, some customers find it lacking in originality and a bit slow towards the end. The thriller genre is well-executed with a nostalgic afterschool special vibe.

                    Murder, betrayal, and feathered hair

"I've only recently become a casual SOV fan and I have labels like AGFA, Terror Vision and Saturn's Core to thank for that. The latter brings you The Killing of Bobby Green, "an analog after school special from hell" the blurbed description that I won't even try to top. Writer-director-editor-star McCleery off-roads through the SOV underbrush with a heady mix of baby boy charisma and Olympian overconfidence. There's something deeply admirable about his maverick DIY spirit, the "Fuck it, my friends and I are gonna make this movie" fortitude. As slipcovers go, this is easily one of my favorites. The scenes of the kidnapping and a plot-driving betrayal are rendered in a true crime, comic book style reminiscent of Sonic Youth's Goo. There are hours and hours of extras, including a previously unreleased SOV comedy that I plan watching with trepidation. Add to that several shorts (all with AC), director interviews, and a making of featurette, and you have a fascinating portrait of of an artist who creates because *he has to* and does it on his own terms."

                    Sh*t Ton of Extras!

"I was actually very intrigued by the story. A fun movie for a no-budget DIY production. And they went all out with the extras. Recommended."

                    Jeffrey L. (4/5)

                    Such a nice set of

"Such a nice set of blu rays from Saturns Core. I got the 10 pack and they have such a nice presentation to each. The slipcovers have both embossing and spot gloss art. And the insert is reversible with different art to show. Just overall really impressed and happy with my purchase. I’m looking forward to watching these!"

                    SOV thrills

"Another wild and strange 90s SOV thriller, with the most insane amount of extra features. Makes little sense but great fun!"

                    Ian S. (4/5)

                    Watch out

"Undrrrsted and very cool and the slip is nice looking"

                    Scott D. (5/5)

                    This isn't your topical Saturn's

"This isn't your topical Saturn's core film, like most which have lots of blood and guts and T&A this one is just a topical movie plot which just a little blood at the end. In all it was just so so of a movie for me. Lots of Extra's on the disc tho."

                    Edwin F. (2/5)

Confessions in Clown Masks: Mick McCleery’s SOV Thriller Unmasked

"The Killing of Bobby Greene stands tall among early SOV morality tales, operating with a bleak sincerity that feels both personal and punk. Mick McCleery’s analog aesthetics and psychological framing deliver more than just a low-budget cautionary tale—it’s a shadowy blend of River’s Edge anxiety and Lois Duncan-style guilt spirals. The film captures that grimy New Jersey teen paranoia of the early ’90s, turning a prank into a cascade of buried secrets, moral collapse, and cold-blooded consequences. With a director-supervised restoration and a treasure trove of McCleery’s decade-spanning video work, this disc cements him as a true regional auteur of VHS-age dread."

                    Danny W. (4/5)

Reprieve from grim SOV without submitting to high definition

"If this movie were weirder or more idiosyncratic, it'd probably be better known. Instead, McCleery auteurs us a solid thriller with Afterschool Special vibes (sure, I bet everyone says that, but it's true!). Well-paced, well-performed, well-written & well shot, leaving sometimes uneven dubbing as the only real sign of "amateur" work. Not only that, but SC does my favorite thing: offers up a buffet of additional shorts from McCleery. CYBORG is the real charmer. . ."

                    Isaac W. (4/5)

                    very cool

"super cool and wild SOV flick with an amazing plethora of extras including two versions of another film by the director along with interviews, shorts, the works."

                    Teegan M. (5/5)

                    After School Crime Drama

"You can tell a lot of effort went into this. I was a little bored at times, but it's just so well made for a low budget s. o. v. Pretty good soundtrack too. Saturn's Core does a great job on extras again, this disc is really stacked! The video and audio are as expected from this line. Even though it lacks the gore and sleaze it makes up for it in story and acting. Overall recommended."
