Umbrella Entertainment has been a 100% Australian-owned and operated distributor for over 20 years. Their vast home entertainment catalogue features an extensive range of Australian classic, cult and exploitation films restored under the eyes of the original filmmakers. All sourced from national archives, underground collectors and local basements.

Based on the real-life tale when Australia declared war on the native emu, THE EMU WAR is a hilarious farce for fans of Sharknado and Snakes on a Plane. A platoon of soldiers is sent deep into enemy territory in order to kill the emus Leader the Queen Emu. The platoon is led by Major Meredith who has a deep hatred of the emu’s after they kidnapped his son. When the platoon is eventually taken captive by the enemy, Meredith learns the truth about his son and the line is blurred between good, evil, human and emu. In this war no one is who they seem. Starring comedy icons Damian Callinan (Backyard Ashes, The Merger) and Luke McGregor (Rosehaven, Utopia), THE EMU WAR is an absurd take on the unbelievable true story of Australia’s war with the native emu (and how the humans were defeated).

I hope Austrailla finds this funny at least.

"I must say, as someone who has been in their fair share of early 2000's internet chatrooms and game lobbies, they make gay jokes with better style then this film. The jokes fall so flat that its cringe, The sci-fi twist on the historical narrative was novel, but I lost interest about halfway through the second act. The slipcover art is great but the film itself is a dud, especially with the special features."

                            Roy E. (3/5)

                            War Time

"My 10 year old and I sat down to watch this and he found it really entertaining and stole it from my shelf to add to his movies, it was an overall enjoyable film and very quirky"

                            Frank C. (4/5)

                            Superb Aussie entertainment

"As soon as I read about this release, I knew it would be something I would enjoy. Based on actual events, there are dramatic moments (and some good kills) but plenty of Aussie humour including laugh-out-loud moments. Great slipcover and artwork - another great release from Umbrella."

                            Andrea M. (5/5)

                            The Emu War

                            "Fun slapstick comedy from Umbrella."

                            Erich H. (3/5)

My favorite blind buy thus far

"This movie was so goofy and stupid and silly and I loved every minute of it. It felt sorta like an Aussie version of Airplane! crossed with a war movie. This was such a nice surprise blind buy! Can’t recommend highly enough!"

                            Brennan B. (5/5)

Uneven but some really funny moments

"Some of this is hilarious, but some of it really isn't. That's not unusual in comedies, so I have to score it a win overall. There are basically two main threads in the movie and I could have done without one of them. If talking emus make you giggle, then you'll probably love both. Even more proof that you can put the words "inspired by a true story" on pretty much anything and not feel too bad about it."

                            Ed K. (5/5)

                            Cheesy, funny, and actually, quite

"Cheesy, funny, and actually, quite depressing. Worth a watch!"

                            Kevin W. (5/5)

                            The Emu War

                            "An enjoyable film."

                            Gloria W. (4/5)

Comedy is subjective so mileage will very (A LOT)

"a chaotic, absurd take on Australia’s bizarre historical battle against emus. Packed with slapstick and over-the-top gags, it lands differently depending on your sense of humor. Hey, comedy is subjective after all. Not a knock against this blu-ray, which is fun and expertly made from Umbrella Academy."

                            Mitchell C. (2/5)

                            Feathers, Firepower, and Full-Frontal Folly

"The Emu War is what happens when Aussie absurdism gets drunk on its own history and decides to reenact a national embarrassment with puppets, pyrotechnics, and a Queen Emu hellbent on vengeance. Major Meredith, haunted by the emu-led kidnapping of his son (yes, really), leads a platoon of misfits into bird-infested battlefields where logic goes to die and Harold Holt shows up just to pee his pants. It’s vulgar, chaotic, and stitched together like a fever dream from a sketch comedy writer’s rejected notebook. The jokes fly fast, most miss, but the sheer commitment to nonsense earns it a kind of trash-cinema nobility. Think South Park meets Gallipoli with a dash of Team America—if Team America had more bird sex and less budget."
