Spoonful of Sugar
"Excellent Shudder release by Vinegar Syndrome. This movie is absolutely crazy in a good way. I have been grabbing all the Shudder releases and as a horror fan they keep delivering. I highly recommend picking up this title."

Psychological Thriller
"Spoonful of Sugar is a psychological horror thriller that blends domestic unease, surreal imagery, and a steadily escalating sense of danger. The story follows Millicent, a young woman who takes a babysitting job caring for Johnny, a mute child with severe allergies, only to become entangled in the family’s secrets as her own grip on reality begins to slip. The film uses her experimental, LSD‑tinged “treatments” as a device to blur the line between perception and truth, creating a disorienting atmosphere that mirrors her unraveling state."

A spoonful makes the depravity go down
"A Spoonful of Sugar is one of those Shudder titles I left languishing on my watchlist for far too long. Expectations, consequently, were modest — and decisively exceeded. Morgan Saylor delivers one of the more unsettling genre performances in recent memory, fully committing to the fascinatingly vile Millicent, an LSD-microdosing child caregiver whose volatility simmers just beneath the surface. The film hinges on a major narrative turn that may prove divisive, but it’s executed with such brazen confidence that many viewers will willingly follow it into darker territory. As with most Shudder partner releases, the presentation is thoughtfully assembled. The slipcover artwork, however, feels a touch amateurish — perhaps intentionally so, though more imaginative visual approaches might have better reflected the film’s psychological bite. Supplemental features are modest but solid, and the inclusion of a booklet is always welcome. All told, it’s a worthy physical release for a film that may be imperfect, but remains undeniably compelling."

Spoonful of Sugar
"This one was a pleasant surprise for me, as I went in not knowing much, and by the end I had a lot more to think about than I’d initially anticipated. Was great to be able to grab this with the slipcover. Also really enjoyed the director’s newest film BONE LAKE and I look forward to all the new stuff."
— Keith M. (5/5)
Pretty entertaining!
"Interesting release with some great performances. Transfer looked good, but the movie could have been slightly better"
— Arthur C. (4/5)
A Disturbing Psychological Horror Experience
"Spoonful of Sugar is a bold and unsettling horror film that takes a different approach than most entries in the genre. Instead of relying on traditional scares, it focuses on psychological tension and discomfort, letting the story slowly spiral into darker territory. That unpredictability keeps the film engaging and slightly unnerving throughout. The performances and direction help sell the unusual tone. It walks a line between thriller and horror, building unease through character behavior and atmosphere rather than obvious shock moments. The overall quality of the release is strong. The transfer looks clean, with good detail and balanced colors that support the film’s clinical, slightly eerie visual style. Everything feels well presented and easy to appreciate on a modern setup. Overall, this is a distinctive and thought-provoking horror film that stands out for its psychological edge and confident storytelling."

"Really good release from Shudder."

Ugh
"Two bad horny parents need a caregiver for their son. The caregiver has a bad horny father or uncle or maybe it's just some guy. I probably should have turned it off."
— Alex B. (2/5)
Spoonful of Sugar
"I suppose this is a gnarly take on mental health and drug therapy. It does offer some brutal surprises and goes a bit off the rails. Watch out for the too-good-to-be-true caretakers that wander into your life."
— Shawn J. (3/5)
