Worth a Blind Buy

"I don’t usually do blind buys anymore but I’m glad I did with Small, Slow But Steady. It’s a movie about a boxer but it’s not a boxing movie. It’s a movie about a deaf woman but it’s not a disability movie. This is one of my favorite discoveries in a long time and I can’t wait to see Sho Miyake’s new film, Two Seasons, Two Strangers. A truly singular filmmaker and this bluray release is beautifully put together."

Great release!

"A hearing-impaired woman with dreams of becoming a professional boxer due to the pandemic is threatened closure of her boxing club and the illness of its ageing president, who has been her biggest supporter, push her to the limit."

Quiet masterpiece

"A distillation of the sports genre to its bare minimum, this is a thoughtful and slow-burning story about fighting our inner demons and finding the strength to fight back when at our lowest. Miyake's minimalist storytelling has an unrivaled elegance. And Yukino Kishii gives everything to such a challenging role! She's able to express so much of her inner struggle through her body language and her eyes. She is simply fascinating to watch, what an under-appreciated actress."
