"Slapface has that small town folklore atmospheric horror to it I dig , it’s a bit of a slow burn but I don’t t mind that , very cool creature design and effects . super cool slipcover on this release from V. C. Love the artwork! Overall if you looking for a creepy haunted witch’s tale in the woods ,I recommend!"

                      Another awesome little Horror picture

"Another awesome little Horror picture by Shudder. It might be a little low budget but it tackles interesting subjects like grief and trauma. August Maturo is really good in one of the main roles as one of the brothers. Great sound and video and a nice amount of extras too. A nice blind buy indeed."

                      Bryan K. (5/5)

                      Spooky and Fun

"Amazing story, slowburn supernatural thriller that I highly enjoyed."

                      Jeffrey L. (5/5)

                      Decent Festival Horror

"Saw this originally at a horror film fest, and given the varying quality when you’re watching 26 films over a weekend, this was a decently nasty spooky little witchy horror. Some good atmosphere, a frightening witch and some anxiety inducing childhood trauma."

                      Mark S. (3/5)

                      Adheres so closely to fairy-tale

"Adheres so closely to fairy-tale horror bullet points that we're all pretty used to after the last decade or so that it never feels like it gels together enough for its own unique voice. All of the vibes it seems to be chasing just feels hollow, detached from its central core so that whenever the actual horror of the story pops up you almost forget it's supposed to be there. The family drama and low-key slice of rural life it paints when it's not dealing with some old witch in the woods is so much more compelling that I actually got disappointed when the final third decides to finally try to turn its full attention to it. The cast feels incredibly naturalistic, and the blue collar upstate New York feel worked nicely to paint a very specific mood that I loved, making it perfect for a thoughtful coming of age story centered around fantastic child actor, and then it gets mired in some cartoonish ideal of what a witch looks like playing off some Guillermo del Toro fan fiction. Though, admittedly, such a look probably factors into what the final scene insinuates. There's just so much good here residing in the individual pieces that it kills me that it never finds the cohesion and marries the two halves together in a much more effective way."

                      Dustin B. (3/5)

This Is A Very Interesting, Engaging Movie!

"This fine release is a classic minimalism presentation that is very interesting to watch! It is engaging, very different, and made me want to keep focused and interested throughout the entire film! The peerless VS restoration process was on full display with stellar sound and picture! Thank you, VS, for continuing to lovingly restore and release so many wonderful films from every conceivable genre! You are keeping physical media alive in this streaming world we now live in! Highly recommended!"

"A much lesser Babadook. A film where a creepy analogy of trauma is manifested in a witch goblin. I struggled to connect the dots as the writing was VERY weak and the actors were mostly dismissible. I only really pieced the meaning together by reading the included insert - which only made the film all the more frustrating. An idea that’s been executed much better elsewhere (Babadook)."

                      Slapface

"Another somewhat banger from Shudder on the VS website. If you are into horror it’s a definite must watch. While not my favorite release from the Shudder line it is more than serviceable. Packaging and presentation are excellent!"

                      Matt R. (5/5)

                      Ok

"It was ok. I was expecting more"

                      Phil T. (5/5)

                      Theme Couldn't Outweigh The Execution

"I really enjoyed the theme of this movie but the execution wasn't there. It ended up not having the impact on me that I think the filmmakers intended. It is worthy of a watch though."
