Working nine to five is a real killer, but team-building holidays can sometimes be even worse.

A coach lurches out of the hustle and bustle of Budapest and heads towards the mountainous border. Aboard are seven employees of the international weapons manufacturer Palisade Defence, global suppliers of innovative weaponry for the past 75 war-torn years. The lucky group are being treated to a team-building weekend at the company’s newly built luxury spa lodge by their president, George Cinders.

But things quickly go awry as the colleagues find themselves faced with the chop when their corporate weekend is sabotaged by a deadly enemy. Forget office politics, only the smartest will survive this bloody office outing.

          Severance

"One of the rare 2000’s horror-comedies that hits the mark. They pulled off the tricky balance well. Good performances all around and decent writing. Good new commentary with the writer and director, which is better than the previously recorded one that is also included. The making-of feature is good as well. My first purchase of a Magnolia title and I’m very pleased with the pick-up."

          Cult Horror

"Christopher Smith’s Severance blends office satire with slasher‑film brutality, following a group of employees from a shady weapons manufacturer on a team‑building retreat that quickly turns into a fight for survival. The film’s tone is its greatest strength: dry British humor colliding with grisly violence, creating a rhythm that’s both tense and darkly funny. Danny Dyer and Laura Harris anchor the ensemble with performances that balance fear and absurdity, while Smith keeps the pacing tight—never lingering too long on jokes or gore. The film’s critique of corporate amorality is woven into the carnage, giving the story a bite that elevates it above standard horror‑comedy fare. Visually, Severance uses its forest setting well: wide, quiet shots that contrast with sudden bursts of violence. The kills are inventive without tipping into parody, and the script maintains a clever awareness of genre conventions. It’s lean, entertaining, and smarter than it first appears—a cult‑friendly mix of workplace cynicism and survival horror."
