Shot down after fleeing a coup and extracting a drug lord from Guinea-Bissau, the legendary mercenaries known as the Bangui Hyenas must stash their stolen gold bounty, lay low long enough to repair and refuel their plane and escape back to Dakar, Senegal. When they take refuge at a holiday camp in the coastal region of Sine-Saloum, they do their best to blend in with their fellow guests; but one Hyena is hiding a dark secret. He has brought them there for a reason and once his past catches up to him, his decisions have devastating consequences, threatening to unleash hell on them all.

                            Reflections on revenge

"Really enjoyed this one. Mostly a thriller with drama and horror elements brought in as the story unfolds. I found myself really paying close attention to try and understand the history, historical figures, and folklore of the region that is revealed in the dialogue. There are some clever twists, likeable main characters, and the ending is creepy and poignant. Surprisingly bare on the special features but definitely recommended."

                            Genre Bending African Horror

"This movie seemed to have a little bit of everything. At its core, it is essentially a horror movie, but it also is a mystery, a folk tale, a drama, and even just a good documentary of Western Africa. The actors put in some convincing performances and the camera work and special effects were very well done. I would recommend this movie if you like horror movies, or even just movies about Africa in general."

                            Christopher K. (5/5)

"Lean and mean revenge thriller. Absolute banger from beginning to end. One of my favorites of the decade so far!"

                            Culture Through Communication

"Beautifully-shot piece of cinema that deftly tells a tale of trauma, history, and revenge, wrapped in a horror-laced package that dives deep into Africa's past."

                            Joe Z. (4/5)

                            Cool movie

"Great slip art. Please stop designing covers with montages of all the characters faces jumbled together, it looks awful and feels lazy"

                            Mitchell Y. (4/5)

                            Go for it!

"Intense and beautifully shot flick from Senegal."

                            Joao J. (4/5)

                            "Great"

                            More Shudder Please

"Vinegar Syndrome and its partner labels have been hitting things out of the park with these Shudder releases. Keep em' coming because Shudder puts out some of the best horror movies today."

                            Simmy T. (5/5)

                            Great Film

"First of all great cinematography, editing and sound design then add great acting in a story of revenge with a twist. Almost missed it as I was mislead by the Once Upon a Time aspect. Jean Luc Herbulot has co written directed and produced a grat film. Cool slipcover Very Highly Recommended"

                            Hansi L. (5/5)

                            Action, horror, and magical realism

"Saloum is a unique African thriller that blends action, horror, and magical realism with a vibrant and visually powerful narrative. The Blu-ray edition particularly highlights its stylized cinematography: the landscapes of the Senegalese delta, the contrasts of light and shadow, and the supernatural moments look sharp and deep. The audio also shines, emphasizing the rich soundscape and multilingual dialogue. With extras that provide context on its production and cultural roots, this Blu-ray is perfect for discovering or revisiting one of the freshest recent genre films."

                            Pablo R. (4/5)
