Reviews

A compelling slice of world cinema

"‘Omen’ is essentially an idiosyncratic world cinema film. It's set in the Democratic Republic of Congo and has intense and involving family dramas at its centre. But the film offers so much more than that including unexpected and disturbing folk horror-like interludes and intermittent encounters with eccentric local gang and youth cultures. It’s all very colourful and compelling stuff."

Entertaining exploration of culture and superstition

"Entertaining exploration of culture and superstition. Great story and captivating cinematography. Fun release with a handful of extra features and neat looking art on the slipcover and reversible sleeve."

Kresh R. (4/5)

Gorgeous film

"This is why I love our partner labels, I’d never have seen this otherwise. It’s shot beautifully and deals with different cultures colliding. It’s all at once a horror, a folktale, and a fantasy. Highly recommend"

The slipcover is truly lovely, and I can understand. how much joy it brings to see such beauty in your space.

"I recently picked up the Blu-Ray of Omen from Utopia through vinegar syndrome, and I have to say, it's an absolute gem! The cinematography in this film is nothing short of stunning; every shot is meticulously crafted, adding to the eerie atmosphere that makes Omen such a classic. Not only does the movie look great on Blu-Ray, but the quality really highlights the intricate details that might have been missed in previous formats. The contrast and color grading are just perfect, enhancing the overall viewing experience. To top it all off, the slipcover is a beautiful addition that makes this release feel even more special. The artwork is striking, and it adds a nice touch to my collection. Overall, I highly recommend this release for any horror enthusiast or collector—it's a must-have!"

Interesting look at African culture

"This movie was a fascinating look at how entrenched some superstitions and traditions are in some societies, and what effects and repercussions they could cause. The family in this film allowed superstition to come between themselves and their son, and there are tragic consequences that are never fully resolved as a result. It also gives us a look at what life is like in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, for better or for worse. I would definitely recommend this movie."

VS Partner Title with a Slipcover Marked Way Down? Why Not?

"This was a blind buy. I barely hesitated to add this to my cart because 1) I already have all the other Omen movies and I can amuse myself by putting this one next to them on the shelf to confuse my guests. 2) It's a VS partner title adorned with an artful slipcover. Even if I don't care for the movie the box is pretty. 3) The discount made me feel like a criminal and it's been a while since I felt something."

Syn S. (5/5)

Holy Hell

"Amazing cinematography, great writing that had me on the edge of my seat at times. The layers behind the family drama itself and the trippy visuals. A great modern movie for anyone tired of modern films."
