Houston, Texas. Sometime in the near future. In the aftermath of the catastrophic collapse of America’s governmental and financial infrastructures, Dij is a pink-haired, crank-snorting, cyber-alchemist performing high priced hacks for hire from his fully mobile, holstered laptop. Dij navigates through a dystopian urban jungle, evading the ire of rival “government” street gangs and wielding his itinerant PC like a futuristic gunslinger, erasing phone bills and shutting down life support systems for a bounty of drugs, floppy discs, and cash. When Dij is hired by would-be terrorists to obtain a high-risk, weaponized computer virus, he instead finds himself involuntarily becoming the carrier of a far more insidious cargo – the fallout from which may lead to war, or even the end of all humanity as we know it.
A highly inventive and virtually undiscovered SOV masterpiece shot guerrilla style on the streets of Houston in 1992, No Resistance was the brainchild of Lunatic Fringe Productions, a Texas based film collective spearheaded by visionary director Tim Thomson and his equally imaginative writing & acting partners David Rains and Irving Cutter. A prophetic, futuristic knockout with a kinetic industrial noise rock soundtrack by Houston’s Pain Teens, it stands apart in the echelon of shot on video features by dwelling unabashedly in the realms of both action & science fiction. Like a dime-store Blade Runner by way of Yojimbo and filtered through the gritty lens of Deadbeat at Dawn, No Resistance remains one of the ‘90s most iconoclastic, cyberpunk, neo-noir sagas.

"Fun SOV"
"Is it great? No. Is it good? Debatable. Did I like it? Absolutely! This one's basically a lofi cyberpunk film, which is already a niche AF sub-genre, but. . . if that sounds like your kind of thing, it probably already is. Floppy disks, questionable chemicals, pagers, bulky laptops, regional vibes, oversized shades, and a vague idea of the Internet (with references to WS Burroughs)? Yeh. All here. What more would you want?"
"I know there’s a lot of charm to SOV films and a lot of nostalgia for some folks, though for me it’s mostly the former. This is one where it’s also not challenging to appreciate the wild ambition of the filmmaking."
"Kind of a no-budget, SOV take on YOJIMBO, I have to admit I found this a little hard to follow, but you may vibe with it a bit more if you are into: cyberpunk, kitchen-sink cinema, super-indie / alterna-rock, dystopian worldbuilding. The movie is pretty impressive for what it's attempting given its resources, and while I can't see revisiting it all that often, it's definitely worth a look for the curious. Usual array of nice Saturn's Core supplements, including a retrospective interview featurette, music videos, and a couple of commentaries (one of which has the music team talking about the music interwoven with the full versions of the songs themselves, which is interesting). Video is what it is, but overall this is another solid sleeper from Saturn's Core, even if not one of my top-tier titles. I'm still glad I tried it out!"
"So pleased to have discovered this no budget shot-on-video guerrilla street film. As much cyberpunk media as I consume, I very rarely feel that I am watching a movie that’s made by actual cyberpunks. But this film is exactly that from front to back, the very act of making this is levels of jacked-in that only a few can say they’ve reached. So much fun and I hope everyone involved with this movie has stayed the same. PS the industrial rock soundtrack kicks ass!!"
"This is about the best case scenario for blind-buying an SOV title, for me. Clever, energetic, charming, and keeps its pace, never really boring. There's always something going on that got me, whether it was character quirks (see: condiment packets), background world-building, great budget effects, or plot movement. Loved it, can't believe it was so inexpensive during a sale even with the pretty slick slipcover. Two options for case art both carry the vibes solidly. The special features are plentiful and great, and I haven't even listened to either audio commentary, or the commentaries on the music videos. Really cool release that I was initially hesitant about picking up, so glad I went for it."
"Another one from Saturn's Core that was right in my wheelhouse with its weird cyberpunk 90s vibe. Just so 90s and so friggin awesome."
"Great VHS-flick from the lovely Saturn's Core dudes. We wouldn't have this if it wasn't for them."
"I recall seeing this advertised in the back of Film Threat in the 90s. What a great regional sci-fi piece. Great extras as well!"
"It was fun seeing the Houston from my childhood in this low budget cyber punk oddity."
