Saturn's Core Audio & Video is a New Jersey based home video label devoted to releasing underground oddities and shot on video cinema on VHS, and now, blu-ray discs! In partnership with OCN Distribution, Saturn's Core will exhume forgotten or under-seen genre cinema from the 80s and 90s, with an emphasis on SOV horror features. Vinegar Syndrome’s sister company, OCN Distribution, is thrilled to be representing this diverse and unique home video line!

Saturn’s Core is proud to present the collaborative works of two monumental female artists: Emmy Award-winning filmmaker and artist Merrill Aldighieri and provocative musician and poet, No Wave icon, and Cinema of Transgression firebrand Lydia Lunch (Fingered, Vortex, Mondo New York). Combining two essential video features, a wealth of rare archival material, and an exclusive new career spanning interview with Lydia, this crucial anthology presents a shocking snapshot into the oeuvre of one of the most important, impactful, and insurgent female voices in history.

In The Gun Is Loaded (1989), Lydia Lunch delivers a brutally frank manifesto in a journey through the heart of contemporary 1980s American darkness. Set against a series of New York City locales, Lydia’s singular brand of poetic nihilism is underscored by footage of bottom rung Americana; as race car crowds, dead end streets, and meat packing plants seamlessly illustrate her ruthless examination of “the American dream turned mean”.  Featuring a cacophonous and deranged score by J. G. Thirlwell aka Foetus, Lydia brazenly disseminates her unresolved rage, exhilarating profanity, and timeless critiques of Reagan era politics in this ‘80s underground video classic.

In Road Rant: A Week on the Road with Lydia Lunch (2012), the X-rated cartoon animations of director Merrill Aldighieri add a comical edge to this otherwise intense Lydia Lunch tour documentary. Highlights from five concerts are accompanied by a live music score performed by composer Joe Budenholzer (Backworld) & horn player Terry Edwards (The Higsons) during their travels to Marseille, Lyon, Evreux, & Nantes amidst Lydia’s promotional tour for the French release of her book Paradoxia: A Predator’s Diary.

no one like her

"There's no one like Lydia. Though she's well known and celebrated, there's always more to discover. Most only focus on the Richard Kern stuff, so its a delight to see these other films get their day in the sun. Buy all things Lydia always."

I don't know what I

"I don't know what I was expecting, but it's hard for me to buy into the need for more edgelord art projects past the year 2000 or so. There's really not much in the way of sexual references or metaphors one can pull out anymore to be shocking, and honestly, I spent most of this wondering how can someone still be shouting out the same rhetoric after three or four decades of it without much variance. Shouldn't someone grow to some degree in that time?"

Lyia Lunch The Gun is Loaded / Road Rant Bluray review

"Saturn's Core continues their quest to releases under seen SOV titles. This is their next collection and it consists two films with an interesting female talent, Lydia Lunch. She is a musician and a poet. These films are uniquely different and interesting to watch and listen to. The image quality on The Gun is Loaded is good. The disc comes with some poetry readings, commentaries, and documentaries. The slipcover is of great quality. These are unique and not for everyone, but if you enjoy Lydia Lunch, this is a must buy."
