Drawing on the Arab heritage of the ‘Arabian Nights’, Leila and the Wolves combines fictional drama, archival footage, fantasy sequences, mosaic pattern, to refute the colonial and male dominated version of history.

Intriguing Unearth

"Leila and the Wolves is a fascinating and unconventional film that blends history, politics, and personal storytelling in a unique way. It’s bold and sometimes challenging, but the narrative and performances keep you engaged throughout. Watching it feels like uncovering a hidden piece of history through someone’s very personal lens."

Historic Feminist Cinema that should not be missed!

"I bought this film on the recommendation of a video I’d seen on YouTube and felt I shouldn’t pass up the opportunity to grab what was is an essential viewing of feminist film and history. We follow Leila to a photography exhibition in London showing the history of the Palestinian and Lebanese people during the countless years of turmoil in the early to mid 20th century. A comment by Rafik (her male counterpart in this feature) about the “lack of” women during the harsh political era in the photographs prompts Leila to take us as a fly on the wall back to the periods shown at the exhibit. We then see first hand the true horrors her people have continually faced, with both archival footage and dramatised reenactments, which are brought forth through the eyes of multiple women who each play out a key role in the story of their history. These scenes continually demonstrate how the women at the time played such crucial roles in their fight for their lives and freedoms. An essential piece of cinema not to be missed. On a side note, the artwork for the slipcover is absolutely stunning!"

Feminist Masterwork

"A blind buy as the artwork made curious and the name of the label Several Futures. A Feminist Masterwork. Highly recommended"

Hansi L. (5/5)

Interesting docudrama

"A film that weaves together re-enactments, archive footage and fairy-tale sequences to create a testament to the history of Lebanese and Palestinian women to the political struggles of the twentieth century."

Leila and The Wolves

"The movie itself was excellent but the bonus material was a little sparse: only an interview and a trailer. I would have still given it five stars if it wasn't for the fact that the interview does not have close captions, which means my wife (who is hard of hearing), who I ordered this for, cannot understand it."

Fantastic revelation!

"This is why I love the partner labels the best, they bring films I didn’t know existed."

Fantastic 80s Feminist Palestinian movie

"Just a fantastic (and timely given current world state) look at women’s domesticity and revolution in the anti-colonial and anti-Zionist resistance in Palestine. Accounts of mid-century Palestine and the Lebanese revolution through the eyes of women whose roles are so often overlooked. An essential film for all to watch."

Incredible work from a new partner label

"Man this was a tough and essential watch. The glimmer of hope from the women throwing flower pots and boiling hot water as well as deceiving the soldiers through the marriage celebration put a smile on my face. But that smile quickly subsided when these resistance fighters that are beyond commendable are shot dead. This movie is in the same vein as Come and See (1985) if you’re able to stomach that same existential dread and see people fight against authoritarianism this is a must watch. Free Palestine!!"

Highlight of the Month

"This was an absolute banger and a near masterpiece. Immediately put the label and this filmmaker on my radar. This is why I love partner labels--curating this list of 20ish titles really got my eyes on a movie that would have languished on my watchlist for years. I hope that future releases from this label will put in more time on special features of some kind."
