In the heart of a bustling Times Square kitchen, dreams and desperation collide as the back-of-house staff each chase the elusive American dream. When money goes missing from the register, the spotlight falls on Pedro (Briones), a passionate dreamer entangled in a tumultuous love affair with Julia (Mara), a waitress grappling with her own commitments. As tensions rise and shocking revelations unfold, the relentless pace of the kitchen threatens to shatter the hopes and aspirations of those who keep it running. It's a high-stakes drama that explores the intersection of the personal ambition and systemic exploitation of undocumented immigrant workers within the pressure-cooker environment of a Times Square New York restaurant.

    Man I love the way

"Man I love the way this was shot, the black and white photography was beautiful. Rooney Mara like usual was just fantastic. I always love seeing her. Great drama and as someone who worked in the kitchen for a bit it's kinda spot on."

    This Was A Good Watch!

"The photography on the slipcover of this excellent drama was very well done! I loved the way the film was shot, and the acting was always very good, and kept me interested from beginning to end! The peerless VS restoration process was on full display with stellar sound and picture! Thank you, VS, for continuing to lovingly restore and release so many wonderful films from every conceivable genre! You are keeping physical media alive in this streaming world we now live in! Highly recommended!"

    La cocina

    "Crazy dark comedy/drama. Recommended."

    Justin M. (5/5)

    Powerful with some funny moments

"It's very well shot with some impressive long tracking shots that rove through the entire set. The black and white photography is crisp and beautiful. The encroaching aspect ration for the scenes in the restaurant help add to the feeling that they are all trapped there. Has a lot to say about the hollowness of the American dream for many and the way people frequently step on and discard anyone deemed less than. Great performances. Recommended. I'd love to see earlier adaptation of the same play this was based on."

    Ed K. (5/5)

    La Cocina

"Alonso Ruizpalacios has made a wonderful film about working in a popular restaurant, beutifully shot in B & W by DP Juan Pablo Ramírez. Excellent cast and Raúl Briones and Rooney Mara stands out. Highly Recommended"
