Once-renowned jockey Remo Manfredi (Nahuel Pérez Biscayart) has run out of track. Perpetually inebriated, hopped up on horse drugs, and in hock to a minor mafioso, Remo seems to have a death wish. His girlfriend and fellow jockey Abril (Úrsula Corberó) is pregnant, but more invested in the libidinous equestrian underworld than in their drab domestic existence. Remo’s only hope of getting out of debt and starting a new life is riding on Mishima, a thoroughbred specially imported from Japan for his next big race. When Mishima leaps over the fence, Remo winds up in the hospital with a life-threatening concussion. Hunted by the mob and replaced in Abril’s bed by the alluring Ana (Mariana Di Girolamo), Remo dons a disguise and finds himself as herself, wandering the streets of Buenos Aires in a striking mink coat and going by the name Dolores. A wild and surreal crime comedy from Luis Ortega (El Angel), Kill the Jockey explores the fluidity of identity, desire, and animal magnetism in a wholly original and unpredictable register.

Reviews

A very curious Argentinian movie issued in a terrific limited slipcover

"Kill the Jockey is a dark comedy crime drama directed by Luis Ortega, focusing on a troubled jockey involved in crime, addiction, and identity issues, blending gangster film elements with surreal and arthouse storytelling. The Blu-ray releases present the film with strong image quality, sharp detail, and solid audio, doing a good job of preserving the film’s stylish cinematography and colour palette, accompanied by an interview with the main actor (Nahuel Pérez Biscayart), all issued in a simply wonderful slipcover."

Kill the Jockey

"Surreal, sexy thriller. Beautifully shot and a wonderful ride. Fabolous artwork and the jockey reminded me of Buster Keaton. Highly recommended."

Hansi L. (5/5)

I watched the trailer for

"I watched the trailer for this and I knew it would be right up my alley. Had alot of fun with it and I liked the surreal aspect of it. Ursula Corbero kills this film, she's so damn good. Great artwork too and the restoration is fantastic too."

Bryan K. (5/5)

Trailer is better than the movie and looks different

"A blind buy that didn’t work out, partly because the trailer is misrepresentative, mostly on account of its more cinematic colour grading, while the film itself is hard, scrubbed digital imagery with the flatness of a soap opera. Proof that great faces can pull you in, but you need great characters to go with them, and the filmmakers seem far more preoccupied with strained oddball tableaux. A shame, as there was definite potential here. Love to support Music Box Films though and packaging is nice."

Timothy E. (2/5)

A surreal thriller

"Luis Ortega’s follow up to El Ángel is even crazier but it’s as stylish and amazingly performed, specially by Perez Biscayart. The transfer on this edition looks amazing and the artwork is really cool as well. Highly recommended, though not for all tastes."

Nicanor L. (5/5)

Bought it for Úrsula Corbero

"Bought it because of the sexual hottie Úrsula Corbero but stayed because the movie was that good. Crazy, weird and beautifully acted."

Lior B. (5/5)

"Very cool option that I had trouble finding anywhere else!"

Samuel M. (5/5)

Ursula Corbero dancing is worth the price!

A Very Unique Film That Is A Good Watch!

"I first noticed this awesome slipcover, which is the way it usually is when I shop at the king of slipcovers, VS! Then it was time for the movie. it was definitely very unique and also quite interesting to view. It kept me engaged throughout! The peerless VS restoration process was on full display with stellar sound and picture! Thank you, VS, for continuing to lovingly restore and release so many wonderful films from every conceivable genre! You are keeping physical media alive in this streaming world we now live in! Highly recommended!"

A Nightmare in the Saddle

"Kill the Jockey is a grim, hypnotic descent into obsession and self-destruction. Luis Ortega trades conventional storytelling for dream logic, letting mood and menace do the heavy lifting. It’s unsettling, divisive, and often brilliant—but only if you’re willing to surrender to its darkness."
