The peaceful animals of a Taiwanese forest live in harmony until a pack of wolves launches a brutal attack. Uncle Deer sacrifices himself defending the community and sends word to his son, the Deer Warrior. But the Deer Warrior is locked in a rivalry with Elk over the affections of the beautiful Miss Deer, a conflict stoked by the scheming Erotic Fox, who conspires with the wolves' leader.

Incorporating elements from Aesop's Fables and performed entirely by live-action actors in animal costumes, this extraordinary Taiwanese-language fantasy from critic-turned-filmmaker Chang Ying was shot in the mountains of Beitou and is widely read as a political allegory of Taiwan under martial law. Restored in 2K by the Taiwan Film and Audiovisual Institute from a 35mm duplicate negative as part of the Taiwan Film Project, initiated by Taiwan's Ministry of Culture.

    Swedish Shocker

"The Bleeder is a gritty, low-budget horror that leans into its raw, DIY aesthetic. The film builds a grimy, unsettling atmosphere that sticks with you more than any single scare. It’s rough around the edges, but that scrappiness gives it a certain underground charm that genre fans can appreciate."

    So bad it's Swedish

"Definitely in the so bad it's funny category. . no gore, no suspense, no plot. . . no script. . . and some inanely stupid dialogue. . . but oh so watchable. Shot on video so expect some ropey quality. . ."

    Michael L. (3/5)

    Fun, gore free, slasher

"I enjoyed this one. I love slashers, and this one gives everything you'd expect from one except for the violence. I saw reviews complaining about that and that's fair. It didn't bother me though. I'm a sucker for bands ending up in Scooby-Doo type situations. Franco's Killer Barbys movies are classics and if you're one of the millions who disagree you're wrong. So we don't get gore or nudity, but we get a well shot little flick with a pretty cool storyline. The backstory for the killer is stronger than many movies of this type. And the bleeding from the eyes thing is unique as far as I know. Better than yet another movie with a masked killer anyway. I'd have liked a bit more music from the band but otherwise pretty good. Worth checking out as long as you don't mind the subtitles. Looks worse than most of the releases from this label, but perfectly fine if you compare it to stuff from Saturn's Core."

    Very Good Movie!

"This horror slasher features lots of great kills throughout! It is very well done and kept me watching the entire time and wanting more! The slipcover is also pretty awesome! The peerless VS restoration process was on full display with stellar sound and picture! Thank you, VS, for continuing to lovingly restore and release so many wonderful films from every conceivable genre! You are keeping physical media alive in this streaming world we now live in! Highly recommended!"

    Paul K. (5/5)

    Very dull

"If only this movie had better kills. You see nothing. Just the victims being grabbed. The characters aren’t interesting enough to keep you engaged. It’s just very dull. Lots of walking around. Good simple premise. Just no follow through"

    Sue S. (2/5)

    Worth A Watch

"An interesting film, although calling it a slasher (which it's supposed to be) is something of a stretch, I can't recall anyone actually getting slashed! The film features great music, clearly 'inspired' by Halloween, plus decent acting performances from all involved. The filming locations are also really cool and it's not all that badly shot, all things considered. Unfortunately the thing which really lets it down though is the lack of gore. It borrows heavily from a few films and I'd forgive that much, really though it needed some decent kills. I'm glad to have watched it though!"

    Sam N. (3/5)

    The Bleeder

"Stoked to finally check this one out. I had heard of it, but never had the chance to watch it. It’s a solid slasher from days of old and I enjoyed the watch. I’d recommend grabbing a copy. Packaging and presentation are excellent!"

    Matt R. (5/5)

    Bad Band Worse Movie

"Low budget Swedish slasher film from the 80’s that starts out like the “Heavy Metal” horror films of the 80s except no Heavy Metal and the girl rock band is horrible. Boredom sets in quick. Has some moments and ok shot scenes but becomes monotonous and boring quick."

    Chip C. (3/5)

    The Bleeder

"So glad this obscure Swedish slasher finally got released. Must see for fans of 80s SOV slashers."

    Brian W. (4/5)

    Great Visuals, Horrible Audio

"Babblecore with the worst audio I've ever heard. Landscape is beautiful, but there was no on screen kills and the story just wasnt there"
