Reviews

Excellent first film from Perry Blackshear

"The moment in the basement with his friend was a good stand out to me. Features some simple and direct cinematography as a good example of realistically attainable effect for a first film. Very moving story of male friendship amidst mental illness."

Robert P. (5/5)

Interesting take on mental health

"I thought this movie was really good for what it is. Pretty low budget, but the acting was convincing. Working in mental health, the depiction of someone off medication with an unspecified schizophrenic diagnosis is not done in bad taste."

Brandon R. (5/5)

They Look Like People

"Low budget horror where the monster is mental illness. Great performances and look of the film. Highly recommended"

Hansi L. (5/5)

They look like people

"Really cool movie it was a blind buy"

Andrew D. (5/5)

I feel them (the scenes) in my skull

"Never has a bottle of acid been so intimidating but not as much as sleeping besides such extreme paranoid delusions. Gets claustrophobic. Both guys are going through mental adversity in very different ways and Evan, who is severely depressed, almost seems to be giving up by allowing his friend to tie him up which could very likely lead to his murder. Really deep friendship and ultimate trust prevails, phew!. . . or does it. . ."

Derek T. (5/5)

They Look Like People

"Great features and packaging!"

Hunter R. (5/5)

A Modern Arthouse Genre-Bender.

"I viewed this film on the They Look Like People Yellow Veil Pictures Blu-ray Limited Edition physical media released through Vinegar Syndrome and it is the same great premium level of packaging and presentation that you’ve come to expect from the generic releases of this boutique label. No other brand beats Vinegar Syndrome at the cardboard game and this great slipcover is no exception to the consistently fantastic artwork and component quality this company produces. Michael B. (5/5)

A minimalist gem about fear, friendship, and fragile sanity

"A haunting, low-budget psychological horror that turns paranoia and loneliness into something deeply human. As two old friends reconnect, one begins to believe an unseen evil is taking over the world. Terrific performances, with moments that are both tense, and quietly moving."

Mitchell C. (5/5)

Mental illness, horror and compassion

"Sadly I missed out on the skip version of They Look Like People but I was happy to snatch this up during Partners Only month. I'd streamed it a couple of times before and I'm thrilled to have a physical copy. The booklet with Anton Bitel's essay alone makes it worth the price but everything else is more than satisfactory. Another home run for Yellow Veil!"
