A quiet New England town becomes the site of a grisly murder and assault, leaving a young man dead and his girlfriend in critical condition. Sam Cordell, head surgeon and medical examiner at the local hospital, senses something isn't quite normal about the attacker, but barely a day later, another woman is savagely assaulted and killed. With the realization that a maniac is on the loose, Sam, with the help of police chief Hank Walden and newspaper columnist Laura Kincaid, must unravel the mystery before additional murders occur, all the while unaware that Sam's own daughter, Jenny, might be next on the victim list...

An intense and disturbing supernatural slasher, John Hough's (LEGEND OF HELL HOUSE, AMERICAN GOTHIC) THE INCUBUS stars acclaimed actor and filmmaker John Cassavetes (A WOMAN UNDER THE INFLUENCE), John Ireland (THE SHAPE OF THINGS TO COME) and Kerrie Keane (SPASMS) in her feature film debut. Stylishly photographed by Albert J. Dunk (CLASS OF 1984) and scored by Stanley Meyers (THE DEER HUNTER), Vinegar Syndrome brings this 80s terror classic to Blu-ray for the first time.

Come for John Cassavetes

"Movie: This movie has some solid elements but didn't really manage to bring them together in a satisfying enough way for me. John Cassavetes is giving an impressive performance, but it's not quite in step with everything else. There's a lot of frustrating bafflement, where characters keep making decisions that don't seem to have enough justification. On top of that it takes the movie way too long to bring up the topic of what an Incubus is, and why characters should believe that an Incubus is what's behind the murders. Then when it does there's no explanatory lore drop to contextualize what's been going on. Thankfully the SA, while explicitly talked about, is not shown in graphic detail. Drinking game trigger is whenever a character says "sperm", which happens more than I was expecting. Extras: Three solid interviews, plus it's always nice to have the trailer, let alone TV spots. The alternate cuts were shorter than expected, maybe only a minute or two. Packaging: Really great slipcover, and bonus points for reversible inner cover."

Entertaining sci-fi

"This one is all over the place at times, but that is part of its charm. Fun to see John Cassavetes in a starring role, and he largely re-wrote it."

Been looking for this one!

"The cover art at the mom and pop video store always intrigued me with its Exorcist vibe. The movie itself is only average but it’s great to see Cassevettes slumming!"

Gotta love the 80s

"I love the period from the 70s until the early 80s when you had amazing actors, generally advanced in age, taking on some roles in some pretty insane horror films. In "Incubus" you've got the legendary John Cassavetes, bringing acting intensity level ULTRA. Kerrie Keane and John Ireland are also great and the whole cast vibes well together. It's a creepy flick and the transfer is really nice. love it!"
