Saturn's Core Audio & Video is a New Jersey based home video label devoted to releasing underground oddities and shot on video cinema on VHS, and now, blu-ray discs! In partnership with OCN Distribution, Saturn's Core will exhume forgotten or under-seen genre cinema from the 80s and 90s, with an emphasis on SOV horror features. Vinegar Syndrome’s sister company, OCN Distribution, is thrilled to be representing this diverse and unique home video line!

Dubbed “The Ed Wood of the 21st Century”, Des Plaines, Illinois based former marine and Golden Gloves boxer turned gonzo filmmaker David “The Rock” Nelson has been churning out his bizarre and mesmerizing brand of backyard monster movies for over 30 years. Often playing multiple onscreen roles simultaneously while utilizing local friends, his parents, and his girlfriend Janet Okulanis as his co-stars, “The Rock” has amassed a robust SOV filmography and persevered undaunted in the face nonexistent funds, unfavorable reviews, and outdated video equipment. Nelson’s work represents a singular viewing experience like no other: landing somewhere between the earnest monster romps of Paul Naschy and the eccentric video diaries of George Kuchar; where the filmmakers’ real life day to day activities and interactions sometimes outweigh the forwarding of the narrative. Equipped with dime store rubber fright masks and his camcorder, David “The Rock” Nelson has unapologetically crafted a legacy that remains an inspirational testament to the spirit of fulfilling your cinematic dreams at any cost.

In Monster Tales (2002), David “The Rock” Nelson is your Rod Serling style host presenting three terrifying tales of backyard monsters run amok! In the first tale, Nosferatu (Nelson) rises from the grave in broad daylight, transforms into a rubber bat, and wreaks havoc on unsuspecting Chicago bar patrons and the Monster Bash cookout! In the second, the marauding Tor (Nelson in a rubber Tor Johnson mark) terrorizes a cemetery, a library art exhibit, and his own parents amidst repeated outhouse bathroom breaks. Lastly, two werewolves fight a bloody duel to the death after a mad scientist (Nelson again) concocts and consumes a secret wolf man spawning plasma potion. All while the bumbling Detective Rock (Nelson yet again) remains futile; binging sweets, watching monster movies, and denying the existence of the monsters in question. Featuring celebrity “appearances” by Forrest J. Ackerman, George Stover, Ric Flair, Mancow Muller, & Tommy Chong, Saturn’s Core is proud to present Nelson’s SOV anthology epic Monster Tales along with a host of additional brain-smashing extras and madness hand picked by The Rock; including his classic short Mummy A.D. 1993 and hours upon hours of java guzzling special features.

Keep On Rocking !!!

"Another superb release from Saturn’s Core of some low-budget, fun SOV from the legend who is David ‘The Rock’ Nelson. The main feature, Monster Tales, is best played with the introduction from the man himself. As another reviewer has said - keep ‘em coming !!!"

You know what you're getting by this point

"You're going to either love, hate, or love to hate Nelson. Staggering movies that it's hard to believe exist. It really may depend on your mood at the time. If you're in the right mindset, they can be ridiculous fun. If not, they are a torture test where you may need to lock up any sharp objects before you begin. By about the sixth time Nelson filmed a phone conversation with himself loudly answering "I know!" every two seconds, I was ready for a break. Vol 2's Devil Ant really tickled me. I loved it. Vol 1 I could barely get through. This one is somewhere in between. The package is great regardless. Well put together with lots (too many) extras of Nelson talking."

Very Good Collection!

"The peerless VS restoration process was on full display with stellar sound and picture! Thank you, VS, for continuing to lovingly restore and release so many wonderful films from every conceivable genre! You are keeping physical media alive in this streaming world we now live in! Highly recommended!"

Paul K. (5/5)

Monster Tales

"As advertised/expected: more fun, nonsensical, zero budget zaniness that should be inspirational to all diy indie filmmakers. Not my favorite of the Rock Nelson Volumes released so far, but still worthwhile."

Justin S. (4/5)

Another Rock Classic

"These releases of David Nelson’s masterpieces have all been amazing and fun for the whole family. Even my 12 year old son loves them. Let’s drink some Java, pound some brewskies, and pump some iron! More please."

Joshua A. (5/5)

Great Series From Saturn’s Core

"Love these David the Rock Nelson releases! This one is a bit shorter but just as good as the others!"

Eli O. (5/5)

More Rock!!!

"I hope these come out forever. There’s no director that’s having a better time making schlock than the Rock."

Austin A. (5/5)

Micro Budget SOV

"Let me start by saying these are not good movies, they are micro budget sov films. I purchased because I have a soft spot for Nelson’s films, having owned a few on vhs back in the day when you purchased them directly from him. I had never seen these but if you like cheap sov films give it a try. Transfer quality is not bad considering what they were dealing with, definitly better than the old vhs tapes."

Richard R. (3/5)

How do we already have three volumes of David Nelson flicks!?

"It's David "The Rock" Nelson Collection Volume 3. By now you know exactly what you're going to get and if he's you're thing, he's definitely YOU'RE THING. Pick it up if this sounds like you."

Mitchell C. (4/5)

David "The Rock" Nelson Collection: Volume 3

"Definitely not for everyone. If SOV is your thing then you will be entertained."
