Environmental Protection Agency officer Steve Malone (Terry Kinney, The Firm) travels to a US Army base in rural Alabama to investigate potentially toxic materials which have been causing curious symptoms amongst soldiers. His family — teenage daughter Marti (Gabrielle Anwar, Scent of a Woman), young son Andy (Reilly Murphy, Dangerous Game), and wife Carol (Meg Tilly, Psycho II) — go along for the ride and begin interacting with, and being threatened by, locals who are visibly unwell. As events unfold on and around the Army base, it becomes eerily apparent that increasing numbers of people are being replaced by alien replicants while they sleep.
The third feature film adaptation of Jack Finney’s Invasion of the Body Snatchers, following films by Don Siegel in 1956 and Philip Kaufman in 1978, 1993’s succinctly-titled Body Snatchers served as the major studio debut for noted indie stalwart and provocateur Abel Ferrara. "Beautifully highlighted in 4k are scenes filmed in an area of Alabama perfect for the military'esc aspect of this 90's era spin on the Invasion of the Body Snatchers tale. Beautiful camera work, Meg Tilly appearing perfectly robotic, and a good supporting cast makes this a 90's gem. Not only is the film worthy of its military'esc spin on delivering the alien pods storyline, the teen lead was believable and often comical in elements meant to be fearful. Vinegar Syndrome knocked the packaging outta the ballpark. the slip box is stunning and matching slipcover equally as stunning, a gorgeous release that looks as beautiful on screen as it does displayed on your shelf."

"A strong transfer of an interesting film. The darks look great on the 4K. It's nice to see niche films finally getting the treatment on disc that they deserve. VS have gone out of their way to make this a great edition of 'Body Snatchers'. The disc arrived promptly and was well packaged. A fantastic release of an often overlooked feature film."

"Abel Ferrara's BODY SNATCHERS (1993), the third film adaptation of Jack Finney's 1955 novel, holds up quite well on rewatches. Despite some limitations, the movie is exceptionally lit and shot, has a solid cast (MVP Meg Tilly), and adds an interesting dynamic to the well-known alien invasion story with the military aspect (added by Larry Cohen). Stuart Gordon was originally slated to direct (and he's still credited for the screenplay), but the film ended up with Ferrara (his first of two Hollywood pictures made in 1993; the other being DANGEROUS GAME). The first half of the film is a slow buildup, but the second half ramps up the action and effects, which are both very well done. It's a mostly straightforward, even "classic filmmaking" affair, particularly for Abel, but there are enough juicy moments to keep it exciting."

"The scene where Jennifer Tilly speechifies is one of the scariest horror scenes of the 90s. Overall I did this entry in the Body Snatchers canon - not as much as the first two but a worthy successor. It's certainly better than the Nicole Kidman one."

Great edition for a great film
"Fantastic features. Superb image. I love it when a director gets out of his comfort zone, there he can reveal his craft. Ferrari did a very good job. Not as good as Kaufman’s version but much more ominous. And greatly lit too. Now what about doing justice to a forgotten film ; « Riders of the Story » (aka « The American Way ») from Maurice Phillips ?"

A Worthy Body Snatchers Movie!
"Abel Ferrara's Body Snatchers is a refreshing take of the original movie and the 1978 remake. Although both the 1956 & 1978 remake are both top notch, Body Snatchers is a worthy continuation of the sci-fi classic! The collectors edition from VS and transfer are once again beautifully done! Too bad VS never took the time out to look at my films when I contacted them in the past. . ."
