Let's shred our way to hell! The Greek myth is reimagined as a post-apocalyptic skateboard rock opera in SHREDDER ORPHEUS—a low budget hallucination that drops somewhere between the music video for Devo's "Whip It," a Bones Brigade skate tape, and a surrealist art project. The story follows Orpheus (director Robert McGinley), a rock star who descends to hell in order to save his kidnapped wife (and the universe) from Satan and his hypnotic TV signals. Filmed in Seattle and featuring a rare screen role from Steven Jesse Bernstein—the William S. Burroughs of the Pacific Northwest—SHREDDER ORPHEUS makes its disc debut with a new preservation from the original film elements.

A really fun film that also actually quite good
"This is such a fun film! It's actually quite good with a premise that's fully realized and its very DIY zero-budget aesthetic works in its favor. The cast is engaging and the characters work well as as ensemble. The transfer, too, is surprisingly good! Comparing this transfer to the original VHS version in the special features really shows how much care went into this. The soundtrack, too, is a lot of fun, especially the wry takes on a couple of familiar standards."

A Novel Take on the Classical Myth
"Movie: Really great look. The sets, and especially the costumes give a unique feel to this which gels really well with the SOV look as well as the music. It gets a bit slow towards the end but is otherwise a novel riff on the classic myth. VHS version: I didn't notice anything in particular different about the VHS version, aside from the obvious step down in fidelity. The costumes definitely benefit from the main version of the movie on the disc. Extras: Always nice to have the trailer, and the Bombshelter Video promo is worth checking out for the vintage skater video vibes. Book: I appreciated both the interview and the essay. The latter especially gave me some more to think about when I rewatched the movie and definitely increased my enjoyment. It's also nice that the book includes a review of the movie from back in the day. Packaging: The look is overall great. Only (minor) complaint is that the slipcover and the inner cover have the same front (inner cover not reversible)"

"What a cool little gem from the 80s! Gotta love an 80s skater movie! Got lucky enough to grab the slipcover edition of this movie too. I'd never heard of it before the sale, but I'm excited to watch the movie in its restored edition, after a full treatment to the director's original intention for the film. I also hear the soundtrack is awesome, so I look forward to some new songs for my skating mix!"
