"James Bond + a Baboon There’s nothing else needed in this review, well that it’s going OOP and will very likely never be available again"
UNMASKING THE IDOL is part of our Vinegar Syndrome Archive collection, celebrating forgotten cinematic oddities from the video store era. This collection was inspired by our own brick & mortar video store, The Archive in Bridgeport, CT.
Unique to this line, each hand numbered limited edition release will come fitted in a specially designed, bottom loading VHS inspired slipcase, while also including a double-sided poster.
These releases will ONLY be available on our website and at participating indie retailers. Absolutely no major retailers will be stocking them. This slipcase edition (designed by Robert Sammelin) is strictly limited to 6,000 units and may (but probably not) be followed by a standard edition in the future.

Duncan Jax is a world renowned secret agent and expert ninja. When he's not saving the world from international terrorists, he spends his time training in martial arts with his baboon sidekick, aptly named Boon. However, Duncan's new mission may be the most dangerous of his career when he is tasked with stopping the sale of atomic weapons and defeating a mysterious masked super-villain known only as Scarlet Leader. If successful, not only will Duncan escape with his life and save the world (again) but he will become rich beyond his wildest dreams after discovering a secret treasure being held in Scarlet Leader's lair.
Produced by the inventive North Carolina based E.O. Studios and directed by prolific filmmaker Worth Keeter (Snapdragon), UNMASKING THE IDOL remains one of the studio's most ambitious projects. Containing many impressive action and stunt sequences, as well as, hot air balloon chases, a fighting baboon, and of course...a hefty dose of ninja action - UNMASKING THE IDOL truly must be seen to be believed. Vinegar Syndrome Archive is proud to present this notoriously under-seen cult classic on Blu-ray and newly restored in 2K from its 35mm interpositive.

"Now that I have Dincan Jax and Boon, I never neef James Bond again. He's no ninja and doesn't have a baboob, who is also a ninja."
"Great release. . . top notch picture quality and special features Highly recommend it The slip and presentation is top class"
"Was completely unaware of Duncan Jax when I bought this on a whim and was delighted by this! It’s a wild tonal roller coaster but it’s also a blast. Name a better secret agent movie where the protagonist has a monkey sidekick, I’ll wait."
"I'm certain I'd have loved this movie as a kid if I'd seen it then. It's a sort of take on a Roger Moore-era 007-type of story, but it leans into the cheesiness pretty hard. It's silly and charming and the transfer looks good. For the price it was an excellent value!"
"bassicly what you can call a lost «canon» picture, ninjas, 80’s and cheesy lines, all here, best enjoyed with a buzz"
"Great job from VS on packaging and video / audio quality as usual. But I wasn't a fan of this movie . This was a blind buy , and one I regret . Love VS Archive line , but this one bout put me to sleep ."
"This one is… something. Perfectly depicts Vinegar Syndrome. Definitely had a blast with this one."
"Wild 1980's action/adventure film with a good dose of camp. Feels a little like a cross between an Indiana Jones or James Bond spoof."
"Unmasking The Idol is pure Saturday-afternoon fun—spy gadgets, miniatures, castle heists, and a ninja baboon sidekick. It never takes itself seriously and works as a light, cheesy romp. Vinegar Syndrome’s release looks great and the extras lean into the film’s odd charm."
