RED SURF is part of our Vinegar Syndrome Archive collection, celebrating forgotten cinematic oddities from the video store era. This collection was inspired by our own brick & mortar video store, The Archive in Bridgeport, CT.
Unique to this line, each hand numbered limited edition release will come fitted in a specially designed, bottom loading VHS inspired slipcase, while also including a double-sided poster.
These releases will ONLY be available on our website and at participating indie retailers. Absolutely no major retailers will be stocking them. This slipcase edition is strictly limited to 5,000 units and may (but probably not) be followed by a standard edition in the future.

Remar (George Clooney) and Attila (Dog Savant) are best friends living in California. They spend their days surfing, partying, and running drugs for a ruthless gangster named Calavera. After finding out his girlfriend is pregnant, Remar must choose between living life in the fast lane or settling down to take care of his family. Struggling to come to terms with his new future, Remar decides to set up one last big score before retiring from his life of crime, however, things get complicated for him and Attila when one of their crew betrays them. Now, Remar and Attila have to figure out how to make it out alive before Calavera tracks them down and literally feeds them to the wolves.
Overflowing with drugs, booze, and guns, RED SURF is a violent look at 1980s surfing culture in California. Featuring a surprise early performance from George Clooney (From Dusk Till Dawn, Out of Sight) as the drug addicted Remar in one of his first leading roles, as well as strong performances from Doug Savant (Teen Wolf), 80s heartthrob Dedee Pfeiffer (Vamp), and KISS singer/bass player Gene Simmons (Trick or Treat). Vinegar Syndrome Archive is proud to present this piece of punk rock cinema for the first time on Blu-ray, scanned and restored in 4k from its 35mm original camera negative.

"This film is a blast if you're a person who doesn't hate fun. Amazing to see young George hamming it up in the drug world. Great restoration and special features. Talk about this film more George, it's good!"

Drug Surfers
"Movie: Pretty cool to see young George Clooney looking like Sam Elliott in Road House, although playing a much less likeable character. Doug Savant does a good job playing the best friend, and Gene Simmons pretty much nails a surprisingly low-key part as Doc, an older mentor figure. The plot is overall pretty solid and had me engaged with the main characters. The amount of action is basically just enough to spice things up a bit. There are some pretty cool looking jet skis, although the big action scene they appear in alongside a speedboat w/ a machine gun isn't as exciting as it sounds, and ends quite abruptly. Extras: 3 solid interviews that add some mildly interesting tidbits. Also you get a poster if you want it. Packaging: Outer slip is pretty neat, and I haven't have trouble with it being two tight. Bonus points for making the inner cover reversable, so you have a choice of new or original art."

Entertainment or Death
"Director H. Gordon Boos was known to wear a t-shirt on set which said Entertainment or Death, and I definitely found this film entertaining. Wolves, Drugs, Gangs, Shootouts, George Clooney smoking crack, and a "little" bit of surfing. The pacing is good, the acting is fine for this, and the direction is more than competent. This release is a good one, with a few special features, and if you're lucky enough to pick one up, a very nice slipcase."
— Ben. Z. (4/5)
Ok movie.
"Restoration looks great and the slipcover art is good and colorful. Movie is just an ok drug crime action movie. Has the novelty of a young George Clooney though."
— Tait K. (3/5)
An Enjoyable Film That is Highly Underated.
"This is a good film thanks to the great acting talent of one George Clooney. Before his ER Days and major movie stardom Clooney played a surfer who suffers a injury turns to the drug running business to make a living. But things get out of hand when his girlfriend decides to leave him and gets himself invovled with a dangerous drug dealer. Most of the film is pretty much formaulic but it's still worthwhile wacthing. When seeing this film it's hard not to notice the acting talent Clooney has and has accumlated since then. A great film to watch if you want to see Clooney's earlier work."

"Apparently someone called George Clooney is in this, I bought it for GENE SIMMONS!!! :) Another one of those cheese-laden video store action romps you devoured as a child gets the Rolls Royce treatment from VS. I mean, we are living in special times, and I love it! Great transfer, good extras, poster and a stunning slip! What more do you need?"
