The year is 2019 and the world has become a dystopian wasteland. A group of nomadic marauders attempt to execute a man named Kuzman as they believe he is responsible for the death of the children in their tribe. After shooting Kuzman several times, they discover that he is in fact immortal. Kuzman then roams the wasteland trying to discover his purpose and ultimately seeking his own death. Upon meeting a fellow immortal, his journey leads him to mythical ruins guarded by a Sentry, whom he will have to defeat to enter and discover the secrets held inside. Flashing back to New Year's Eve in the year 1999, Kuzman discovers a connection between him and a violent Santa Claus impersonator who ends up in an insane situation after crashing a funeral.

Unlike anything you have seen before and almost impossible to categorize, GOODBYE, 20TH CENTURY is a brutally violent post-apocalyptic film lensed in the country of Macedonia. Best described as "Mad Max if it was made by Jodorowsky," GOODBYE, 20TH CENTURY is a unique film experience that is rife with insane imagery, visual metaphors, and a loose narrative structure that plays out in almost three separate parts. Restored in 4k from the 35mm original camera negative, Vinegar Syndrome is proud to present this truly one of a kind film on Blu-ray for the first time, as it has remained almost virtually unknown outside of its native country.

Cocktail of different styles, Macedonia style

"It's hard to imagine this being put forward as Macedonia's entry for the Oscars as it mixes in all kinds of genre elements that make it an odd mix of Mad Max, comedy, oddball scifi and everything else. One moment you're thinking you are watching one of those Italian knockoffs, the other moment it seems you've stumbled on the set of a crazy arthouse film. Transfer and extras are great. An odd choice to release but a good one!"

i wish it went farther

"i totally get the jodorowsky comparison, but it did definitely set me up to be underwhelmed by this movie. it's too slowly paced for how short it is, but there are some good moments and imagery for fans of surrealism. not one i'll revisit often, but still definitely more unique and interesting than the average vinegar syndrome release"

Say Hello To Goodbye, 20th Century!

"The artwork on the slipcover is great! The characters in this wild ride of a film as all fun to watch, as is the entire movie itself! The peerless VS restoration process was on full display with stellar sound and picture! Thank you, VS, for continuing to lovingly restore and release so many wonderful films from every conceivable genre! You are keeping physical media alive in this streaming world we now live in! Highly recommended!"

Bizarre but fun

"Great WTF entry in foreign oddity cinema."

As with pretty much every

"As with pretty much every Eastern European film I've ever seen that I don't totally understand I have to assume there's some deep political subtext that's going over my head. I must confess to not being hip to the history of Macedonia, but does that matter? Maybe it's just a pastiche of cultural influence, something that Western audiences don't always understand. This is a pretty weird movie, not for everyone for sure, but it probably tells us more about Macedonian culture than we think. Is this a sci-fi movie? Is it a comedy? Is it the end of history before we start over? Probably."

Michael C. (4/5)

The first story is good. . . Enough.

"Synopsis: Three separate Macedonian stories set in three very different periods in time. In the future, 2019 to be exact, the impotent and immortal Kuzman is gunned down by his own crew of oddly dressed post-apocalyptic gang of survivors. Despite being shot close to 100 times he can't be killed and they warn him if they ever see him again he's a dead man??? So he has to wander the wastelands alone forever. Luckily that same night he meets a prophet who says he can help him regain his mortality but there's going to have to be a gun fight first. 100 years prior a young man wants to marry his sister with disastrous results. Finally on December 31st 1999 a man dressed as Santa crashes a funeral and things get nasty. Review: This is the best movie from Macedonia that I have ever seen. . . It's also the only one. . . The first segment is the strongest with a good story but fantastic costumes and violence. It sort of runs out of steam about 2/3's in though which is unfortunate. The second story is short and not so sweet and the third has some good gore but never really lives up to the potential it shows. Carnage Count 2/5 Sleaze Score 2/5"

"Beautiful scan. I'm a sucker for a dystopian future story and this one brings it in ways you have to see to believe. Super fun."
