17 years ago, Peter's grandfather went missing under mysterious circumstances. Now, Peter and his friends have returned to the placid Wisconsin town to check out his inherited lake house and to partake in the annual 'Muskie Madness' fishing competition. Soon after his arrival, Peter begins to sense that something isn't quite right, but none of his friends, nor the local sheriff, will believe him. But as townsfolk and tourists begin to disappear, Peter becomes determined to solve the mystery, as well as that of his grandfather's disappearance, and soon finds himself facing off against a fish hook wielding madman!

The feature film debut from director Jim Mallon (Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie), BLOOD HOOK is a distinctly comedic slasher that mixes copious bloodshed with wry satire. Never released domestically in its original version, Vinegar Syndrome presents this under-seen regional horror oddity fully uncut, and featuring previously censored gore and mayhem, on Blu-ray, in a fresh cinematographer-approved restoration from its original camera negative!

Troma!

"A one of a kind slasher film that keeps its tongue resting in its cheek at all times. The comedy is so dry in Blood Hook that it's really kind of special. One of the more exceptionally weird but acceptable Troma movies to force onto your distant family on the off chance they're sleeping over one night."

Great fun

"TROMA slasher = fun. Not too much gore but the sheer absurdity keeps the flow."

A Tremendous Slipcover — GLORIOUS CARDBOARD!

"BLOOOOOOOOOD! I viewed this film on the Blood Hook Vinegar Syndrome Blu-ray Limited Edition physical media release and it is the same great premium level of packaging and presentation that you’ve come to expect from the generic releases of this boutique label. No other brand beats Vinegar Syndrome at the cardboard game and this great slipcover is no exception to the consistently fantastic artwork and component quality this company produces. For my full detailed review of Blood Hook, see my entry on Letterboxd: @M4N14K"

Hook, line and stinker

"Synopsis: Seventeen years ago four year old Peter witnessed his grandfather take a nose dive into the water while fishing up at the family cottage only to never return. For his 21st birthday he takes over the family property and returns there with some friends for the first time since the disappearance. His return coincides with the Muskie Madness fishing competition that has a $5,000 prize and has the townsfolk doing crazy things to win. Meanwhile someone, or something, is snagging people with a giant hook and dragging them into the water when they make too much noise on the lake and it MAY have something to do with Pete's Grandfather's disappearance. Review: The movie suffers from trying to keep the killer anonymous so we really only get to see the victims get reeled in and not the bloody aftermath. When they finally show what happens to the victims it's brutal and awesome but unfortunately it's not until very late in the movie. This is obviously a comedy but it appears to take itself really seriously, which messes with the tone of the film. Carnage Count 2/5 Sleaze Score 1/5"

A Strange, Fishing Themed Slasher

"A Strange, Fishing Themed Slasher Parody from Wisconsin."

Blood Hook

"Another vibe slasher that delivers. A tad bit overlong, but the characters and sarcastic wit of the script prevent checking runtime remaining. This is a good time, great package, sweet release."

Barb M. (4/5)

Blood Hook

"Great regional slasher with some unique kills."
