Degausser Video is a brand new label created by several of the devious minds behind VS, which will bring to Blu-ray deluxe editions of both canonical and under-seen shot on video (SOV) genre cinema, in addition to work shot on film, but edited on tape, wherein the original film materials are believed to be lost or destroyed. Similar to Vinegar Syndrome's focus on FILM preservation, Degausser will work only from original analogue tape materials with an emphasis on maintaining the aesthetics inherent to each respective video format. Additionally, each title released by Degausser will be made available in an ultra limited "new" VHS edition, fitted in a custom designed hard shell light box.
On a small Midwestern college campus, female coeds are being hacked to pieces in a rash of gruesome slayings dubbed the “sorority house murders”. In each case, a body part is removed from the victim and a golden amulet bearing a dog’s head left on the corpse, leading Sheriff Wilbois to suspect the involvement of a canine god-worshiping “blood cult”. Determined to put an end to the carnage, the sheriff, with the aid of his daughter and her boyfriend Joel, sets about attempting to stop the blood cult before it succeeds in its grisly aims.
Marketed as the first movie made specifically for the home video market, 1985’s BLOOD CULT marked the first collaboration between husband and wife directing/producing duo Christopher and Linda Lewis and Tulsa-based executive producer Bill F. Blair, who together would go on to produce the Tom Savini-starring The Ripper as well as Revenge, the 1986 sequel to BLOOD CULT. Featuring copious scenes of gratuitous machete mutilation, Degausser Video is delighted to present this classic of the shot-on-video era - which famously publicized itself as having been “banned from two Midwestern campuses” - restored from its original master tape alongside a host of new and archival extras.

"I knew going in this was a SOV movie, so I knew what to expect at least. There's a certain lofi charm to this, but the movie itself does drag for certain stretches. Having said that I cannot imagine it ever looking better, and the special features were great"

Who would have thought this one was going to be receiving the Blu Ray treatment in a stellar edition? The plot is simple: A serial killer is murdering college students, taking a body part and leaving an amulet with dog’s head on it. Is up to the sheriff and his daughter to solve the mysterious case. Sounds great but it is a bit of a snooze fest at times but far from being a bad movie. This great edition is packed with extras including audio commentaries, interviews and more"

"This was kind of a chore at times. I picked it up due to the ties to the movie in HOmegrown Horror set and got it cheap. Don't go in expecting top level anything and you should enjoy it. As always the extra's and transfer are all top notch. If you like lower budget stuff this is up your alley."
