Saturn's Core Audio & Video is a New Jersey based home video label devoted to releasing underground oddities and shot on video cinema on VHS, and now, blu-ray discs! In partnership with OCN Distribution, Saturn's Core will exhume forgotten or under-seen genre cinema from the 80s and 90s, with an emphasis on SOV horror features. Vinegar Syndrome’s sister company, OCN Distribution, is thrilled to be representing this diverse and unique home video line!

Outrageous…Revolting…Abrasive…Tasteless…These are just a few of the adjectives that define the polarizing work of punk musician turned transgressive filmmaker Joe Christ. Combining the gross-out provocations of early John Waters with the penurious, confrontational shock aesthetics of Nick Zedd, Christ utilized video as his primary medium to rail  against the cinematic boundaries of general decency and good taste. Saturn’s Core is proud to present the first volume in the complete filmography of Joe Christ, which conjures up a disturbing worldview populated solely by victims and their potential assailants; an unsettling portrait of early ‘90s American white trash culture teetering on the brink of psychosis.

Communion in Room 410 (1988) presents a cinema vérité variation on the Last Supper replete with nudity, self-mutilation, and blood drinking. Speed Freaks with Guns (1991) chronicles the murderous home movies of a raving, paranoid amphetamine addict. In Crippled (1992), a bed-ridden, disabled woman is repeatedly abused by her amoral caretakers. Acid Is Groovy Kill the Pigs (1993) follows Christ on a homicidal, acid-fueled road “trip” that’s loosely inspired by the real life, Jeffrey MacDonald / Fatal Vision murders. Sex, Blood & Mutilation (1995) unfolds as a shocking, Mondo-style video freakshow featuring appearances by David Aaron Clark (We Await), Tattoo Mike Wilson (War is Menstrual Envy), and industrial pioneer Genesis P-Orridge (Throbbing Gristle, Psychic TV).

No Second Coming

"Your Life Is on the Line: A Joe Christ Anthology is a rough, uneven anthology that struggles to find consistency from one segment to the next. Joe Christ clearly has a distinct voice, but the execution often feels underdeveloped and overly chaotic. There are flashes of interesting ideas, but they get lost in the film’s lack of polish and cohesion."

Tough and gross

"Not sure I approve but it was an experience! He's either an edgelord or a genius"

Ian S. (3/5)

Solid Retrospective

"I was vaguely familiar with a few of Joe Christ's films so I jumped at the chance to get a deluxe presentation of his filmography. While I'm happy I watched it, I have to say I am a bit underwhelmed. I'm sure in the mid-90s this material was extremely cutting edge but in the jaded era of todays internet it was a little "meh". That being said, I did especially like "Crippled" and thought it was a cool idea presented totally bare bones. Easily the standout for me of the bunch. Packaged and presented extremely well, though it's almost redundant to have the films on Blu-Ray as their 30-year old SOV quality can only be finessed so much. Still, it adds to the uncomfortable realism."

Your Life is on the Line

"Very cool release. Love what Saturns Core has put together here and hopefully Volume 2 will come sooner rather than later. If you like off the wall indie craziness this is for you."

Greg V. (4/5)

Not sure how to describe this

"Kind of odd, kind of gross, a bit of a mess, dark humor that occasionally lands, nudity, a really weird hidden feature, unclassifiable and not for everyone. If I have to say something positive, I'd say that he'd have been a lot better governor of Texas than the one they have now."

Joe Christ vol 1

"Love a SOV anthology, can’t ever get enough! Excited to check this one out!"

Spenser Y. (5/5)

Joe Christ’s Your Life is

"Joe Christ’s Your Life is on the Line! gathers a run of his no-budget shockers into one abrasive anthology, plunging viewers into a world of backyard sadism, deranged killers, and DIY nihilism shot on raw video. Blood flows freely in these grimy, confrontational tales that prize excess and transgression over polish; the set’s Features highlight Christ’s uncompromising underground ethos and regional horror hustle; and its Release serves as a time-capsule snapshot of late-’80s/early-’90s American shot-on-video extremity, where rough edges are part of the aesthetic rather than a flaw."

Walter P. (5/5)

Not for me

"Terrible, most of the shorts in here were just horrible in my opinion, ended up reselling it to my bro."

Casey K. (2/5)

Not an easy watch

"Some of this stuff is difficult to watch but it's a fascinating snapshot of a very specific time and place and artistic movement. Keep 'em coming!"
